Morning news observations....

Jul 25, 2019, 9:12 AM

Ok, so I rarely watch the news for obvious reasons. But Sling has tons of news channels, far more than Spectrum did. It's really a decent selection. CNN, Bloomberg, CNBC, Newsy, BBC America, RT, Newsmax, Fox, MSNBC, HLN, France24, EuroNews, Cheddar, LocalNow, etc.

Each morning I've been watching a different one. It's interesting comparing US news coverage to international news coverage as well. Of all listed, the US news networks (MSNBC/Fox/HLN/Newsmax/ etc.) are the most blatantly and obviously biased. France24 is left, but not as bad. BBC America is left, but not as bad. RT is right, but very subtle. It's interesting to see RT because they cover the US news from a conservative perspective, BUT toss in Russian propaganda with regard to issues of Russian interest like Syria, Iran, etc. Newsy and Cheddar are left, but also populated by Millennial talking heads who just reek of idiot. EuroNews is interesting because they don't cover the US at all hardly.

Anyway, overall big picture is the American news media is more biased (both) ways when compared to Russia's propaganda arm, and other European networks. That's just a sad state of affairs.

I don't care really about it.

Basically if you want objective news, or want to see what journalism was like decades ago, look to foreign news sources. We've gone to crap.

my frustration with ameican news media is not in what thy report, but what they do NOT report. They(CNN) spend so much time focusing on Trump's antics(they sell), that there is little time to report on anything else. al jazeera and BBC cover a much broader range of topics.

When you're truly objective, you can cover far more topics

Jul 25, 2019, 9:55 AM

When you pursue an agenda, it narrows your universe of news to cover.

News outlets just give us what we want which is confirmation of our own opinions.

jail injury/suicide attempt. Seriously, after all of this non-stop build up to Mueller testifying. It was a huge story; a frail and oddly confused Mueller giving zero information. No smoking gun, no "gotcha", no nothing. Yet after all of the anticipation, and with all of the weirdness, it got pushed back because it didn't fit their narrative. The bias is blatant and unapologetic.

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."

Yep. That's why I often check the UK news for info.

Jul 25, 2019, 10:23 AM

When I sometimes listen to NPR on my Monday commutes I am astounded by the Left leaning bias. And of course the NYT, etc. are all hard Left.

And when I say the UK news I don't mean The Sun.

I mean the Telegraph, the Guardian, BBC, etc.

What I can't figure out are the Russians

Jul 25, 2019, 10:45 AM

I mean if you think about it, they tend to support conservatism over liberalism in the US. Now if you assume they want to destabilize or destroy the US, then you need look no further than to the left to see where destabilization is happening. Support the party that wants to destroy the Constitution, not the one that supports it the most. The socialists and communists don't vote republican, they vote democrat. Liberals today are more authoritarian and less freedom loving than conservatives. We're leaning further left now than at any point in my lifetime, and we have less freedom overall than when I was young.

Just don't see the Russian angle on the US right now. Sure as heck don't trust them. But we're getting to a point where outsiders see us clearer than we see ourselves. You can see that in the news coverage from foreign countries.

trailer park feud of political entertainment. And it's sorry to see the drum-beating followers they create.

As for the Russians, RT included, they will use conservative ideals as it suits their purposes of destabilization. How can they best drive a wedge into our ideals and fracture opinion, thats the game. When it suits their purposes to espouse anything considered liberal-thinking, they will use it, as well.

Heck, even local news is not immune. We have a bridge controversy down here in Mobile and the politicians got to the news outlets first. Our state govt and Gov. MeMaw (Kay Ivey) slipped in some legislation to allow a new bridge being built over the Mobile River to be tolled. This is part of I-10, that stretches from LA to Jacksonville, and our state govt figured out that they could toll it if they didn't take federal money, so they purposely fudged up the federal grant application. So they hit the news supposed blanket support for a $6 toll to be collected for a minimum of 50 years to pay for "our" bridge. Now, a month into the story, and news outlets are just now discovering that this idea really p i s s e s people off. Go figure.

RT literally stands for Russia Today. It is a propaganda outlet for the Kremlin.
