Birthday and Clemson football has been a big part of my life. Just for fun I put together a few highlights from the past 50 years.....I'm definitely no Tim Bourret, but here goes:
First game: 1975 vs Wake Forest, no upper decks at Death Valley First Bowl game: 1979 Peach vs Baylor...it was cold and rainy. 383-208-9 overall record 2 National Championships 11 Conference Championships 17 Bowl Victories 31-18-1 vs SCAR
Saw two HOF coaches coach their last game (loss) against Clemson....Woody Hayes and Lou Holtz. Two Heisman Trophy backs NEVER find the endzone vs Clemson Defense..George Rogers and Herschel Walker David Treadwell kick 2 winning field goals vs Georgia. The Catch I and II Never seen the Tigers lose to Ohio State. The #### "puntrooskie" 63-17 and 56-7 The most exciting 25 seconds in college football. Jim Phillips Orange pants Tombstones
At Tiger Town Tavern the night Coach Ford was let go...they closed the place that night by playing Taps.
Best Quote: They ain't Alabama. They ain't LSU and they certainly are not Clemson. That's why Carolina is in Chapel Hill and USC is in California and the University in this state has been and always will be, CLEMSON!!! Coach Dabo Swinney
Like I said, just some highlights, but it has been a helluva good 50 years and I look forward to the next 50!!! Glad I was born a Tiger, glad I bleed Orange and sooo thankful my mascot is not a ####!!.
