The remaining Basketball Schedule...
Feb 3, 2016, 9:09 AM
|
|
Team ACC Standing
@ VT 11 ND 6 GT 12 BC 15 @ NC St 13 @ GT 12 UVA 4 @ BC 15
The rest of the schedule sets up really nice for us.
VT will be our biggest road test remaining.
I think we can go 3-1 on the road.
I think we can go 3-1 at home splitting ND/UVA.
That would make us 13-5 in the ACC and 20-10 overall. IMO we would be in.

This could place us in the third or fourth seed (don't have to play till Friday on ACCs). If we slip, then we drop to fifth or sixth and play Thursday (vs. Duke?, Florida State?).
If they win 19 games and one game in the ACCs, do they still go dancing?

3-1 on the road is asking a load.
I think we're in with 19 wins. ACC Tourney would just be gravy. Of course it depends on who we beat, but that's my goal for the team.

I dont think its asking a ton. The remaining teams are at the bottom of the league minus VT.
Yes it is hard to win on the road in the ACC but the teams we have left aren't world beaters.

Here's how I see it.....

There are 2 games that we should win fairly easily:
BC and @ BC
There is 1 game that we should win because is at home vs. a lesser opponent:
GT
There are 3 moderately difficult road games that are winnable if we play decent, but could be trouble if we are having an off night:
@VT, @ GT, @ NCSU
There is one home game against a team that is our equal and if we play like we have at the Well lately, we will win:
Notre Dame
There is one game at home against one of the best in the conference, we could pull an upset, but it would definitely be an upset.
UVA
In summary, I see us sweeping BC and beating GT at home. The other three road games have some difficulty, I'm thinking that we can get 1 or 2 of those. I think we can take Notre Dame, but UVA would be the most impressive home win yet and I'm thinking they may be the only ACC team to survive the Well.
I think that we can go 5-4 the rest of the way if we play decent, but 6-3 or 7-2 if we play like we did in January.
One game at a time though. A win Saturday would be huge.

Here's how I see it. We have 8 games left in the regular season. We go 5-3 the rest of the way and we're done at 19-11. That's enough to get us in the tournament. We have 1 bye during ACC tourney, which has us playing on Wednesday

I would put UVA in the same category as Notre Dame. Certainly UVA is a better team, but we showed we could compete with UVA already and they have had trouble on the road.
Also, Notre Dame will be EXTREMELY difficult because we have 1 day to prepare. 1 day. Thanks ACC.
19 wins is certainly the goal.

Notre Dame also has 1 day to prepare....

and they host UNC Saturday night.
Being the home team on Monday will be a significant advantage. They will certainly be coming off some sort of emotional game with UNC....whether they win or lose, and will have traveled far. Although we would have also traveled, I still think the advantage is ours

I never said it would be easy but the majority of our schedule minus ND and UVA are at the bottom of the league standings rgiht now.

in Feb? They have recovered well and have a shot at the dance (outside), when not many of us thought we'd even make NIT.

All ACC road games are dangerous but when your MOST dangerous standing wise is 11th in the conference it sets up about as well as you could ask for.
It wont be easy but it is doable.
Beating VT tomorrow would be HUGE.

I think 7 is a possibility but I think 5 or 6 is more likely.

I think we win both against BC, split Ga. Tech, beat ND and UVa. at home and likely lose at NCST. Beating Va. Tech away helps as well. We need at least six wins .

13-5 in the ACC with second half that would project, we would definitely be invited to the dance. How 'bout that Wake game? Tale of two halves like I have never seen. Absolutely awful in the first and amazing in the second. Best job of coaching Coach BB has ever done. Wake had some players despite their record.

I like the way you think Mike. I hope we do that or better. I say no way win less than 5 but think 7 is not a stretch.
GO TIGERS!!!
