Returning to Clemson reminded me of another player who I followed very closely for several years. I’m certain some of you remember Freddie Soloman from Sumter SC.. He was among the most talented and athletic football players I ever saw. Back in those days, the Shrine Bowl played in Charlotte every year was a pretty big event. Freddie was absolutely amazing in that game. Shortly after that game he chose to play college ball at Tampa and was a great college player too. Ended up in the NFL but I haven’t learn from him in a very long time. Perhaps some of you know where he is now.
Since I’m on a roll here I’ll continue with my tale. Every Tiger fan remembers the catch made by our own Dwight Clark to win the super bowl but few remember that that play was designed for Soloman who fell down and Montana found Clark for “the catch”. Unfortunately both of these super stars fell to cancer at an early age.
