How to end the SEC SEC crap once and for all
Sep 8, 2016, 10:41 PM
|

what really needs to happen is for a coach to take over an SEC program and not care one iota about the SEC crap. Not use it to psych up his players or anything and to scoff at it when brought up in interviews. If someone took over at say LSU or Auburn and started dominating the league and then turn their back on the SEC family crowd I could see it dying away.
Unfortunately this doe snot look bound to happen as the SEC coaches seem to embrace it as much as the players. hell, Freeze used it in his pre-game speech to his team before the FSU game."This grat conference"

But I agree. You will see, though, the teams/coaches/players that use this chant have actually contributed zero to the fame the conference had.

He knows that it gives his conference a shoe in to the playoffs every year. He also knows that he has benefitted every year that they are forgiven for their 1 loss a season. But he strikes a balance because he knows that he can't let his players buy into the hype.
I have become more satisfied than ever with the media bias towards SEC. The past 3 years have been "eye opening" for college football fans and media personnel alike. The SEC has been suffering from terrible offenses for years and now they can't hide it. The media used to say that they had such great defenses and that was why a score of 7-6 was such an entertaining game. Turns out, they couldn't stop any team that had a decent QB and played a little offense. For me while the bias carried on for years, the SEC is dominant idea started to crack when Boise St. beat Georgia. And the whole thing really imploded when the media influenced the BCS into putting Alabama and LSU into the national championship. Now that the "media" has seen that viewers will turn away, they have no choice but to stop pushing their agenda. Of course ESPN still has a huge financial investment to be concerned with. So I expect to still hear some pundits continue to beat that drum.
But we have to acknowledge that things are changing.

If the pattern the first week holds true this year may help end it. At some point people will realize that 1 team does not make a great conference. Us and FSU doing well is probably helping too. We suck recruits from them and we're doing pretty well against most of their teams. Woukd help even more if VaTech and Miami got it going again.

You nailed it. We need more ACC success all at once, and this will take care of itself, (and from the looks of it, we are getting there, along with another conference.

Well - the ACC has shut that crap up for the past 2 years during Revalry Week, as the ACC took 7 of 8 from the SEZ.

We do the same thing in Basketball. The SEC is weak, but if it works in recruiting or in pumping up players, why would a coach not use "conference strength"?

Why would you take away from the idea thing that makes you look so good?

If I were an SEC coach I'd want everyone to think it were the baddest thing on the planet; way easier to stay relevant with 1 loss.
Think Clemson and FSU would have played 5 years ago against each other in a National Championship Game?

Opposing coaches, including Dabo, also need to stop...

talking about "road wins in an SEC environment". It was simply a road win. They are all good. On the road at FSU, VT, etc. are just as tough. You play the "teams" you play, not the "conference". Stop mentioning SEC every chance you get and it will go away. We played Auburn last week, not the SEC.

Only way for that sh*t to end is for other conferences and teams inside our conference to hold their weight in bow games or head to heads. No othe way.

Like happened at the end of the 2014 season. SEC had a horrible bowl season. Better last year.

I don't remember the best coach/team in the sec being sec homers.
Everyone in that conference rides Sabans/Alabamas coattails.
