As an old HOF'er

who was small but led team in rebounding and other defensive areas, and shot consistently and well, it's just too painful for me to watch these guys play. Yes, a few have more length and athleticism than I had, but none of 'em have much heart for the ball. This is really what rebounding is about and unfortunately you can't really coach it. Some players just have an "it" factor on the boards, especially offensively. We have NONE with this. I watch shots go up and players just stand there assuming it will go in. I never did this. My father taught me that the ball will come off on the opposite side from where it is shot about seventy-five percent of the time and I better get on that side or he wasn't feeding me dinner. And that's how I learned it. Anyway, after I watched about ten rebounds we COULD HAVE gotten, and another ten blow-bys tonight (O player dribbling right by our defender) and about the same number of sloppy passes, I had to change the channel.
I kind of feel like we're in a Bowden-esque era of basketball, and hopefully we will notch it up over the years, but it will have to be like football, through recruiting and building trust in the system and family. And it may take another leader to do it.
That is all.

satisfied with the play. That's how you keep a program at marginal level. And I was hardly "great" as you proclaim, just worked very hard at the game.

I've seen worse play over the years, of course, but I expected much more from this team tonight.

could we have won? absolutely
UNC is long and athletic, and that, my friend, is what you can't coach. You can't coach their size.
I think you are out of your mind to question the heart of a team that took UNC to overtime despite being out rebounded the way we were

watching them play. I saw this against UNC Wilmington. Players just watched the ball when it was shot, very little nose for the ball. I stood next to number 5 at DV, I'm tall and he towers above me at 6-8. He does nothing on shots. Watch the film, then come back and talk to me about the other team's talent. This is Larry Shyatt kind of talk, about all the talent "they've got that we don't have", etc.
