Academic fraud ... worst offense NCAA school can commit?
Apr 22, 2012, 10:58 AM

I personally believe that academic fraud is the worst offense an NCAA school can commit.
Academic integrity is the very foundation of higher education.
While today the NCAA and university presidents actually debate the potential for paying athletes to play (the very thing that Clemson was given NCAA and extra ACC penalties for in 1982) the University of North Carolina in 2012 is found guilty of academic fraud among other grievous sins and is given a "reprimand" ...
Selective justice at its most blatant!!

you have to admit the Heels handled it internally very well compared to their less sophisticated cousins, in name sake only, down the road.
it was obvious that UNC took the matter seriously when it hit the press, where SCu just kinda played dumb, throwing their Assistant AD under the bus, and saying, "der, you mean they had to pay the same rate as hotel customers and not what students pay for housing on average?"
Saunders never paid his bill, so at the very least, they will forfeit all the games in he played in in 09, and 10, giving up their '10 SEC east title." he had been living there for free for almost two years. How that escaped the attention of their compliance staff is beyond me, and probably as much a head scratcher for the infractions committee.

borderline students at best ... everyone just doesn't talk about it.
Stephon Marbury at GT J.R. Can't Reid at UNC etc. etc.
UNC's "holier than thou" stance on their academics made this one especially sweet.
I would guess there are still UNC hoops players that don't do a lick of studying and are still in good academic standing. How do they have time to study with the "Ho's" and the "22's".?

how bout at UNC and USC Columbia....most athletes never go to class....they take all of their classes online....which speaks volumes for why a tutor taking tests for them is even more glaring

In the age of online dictionaries and spell checkers ...

... I can see where learning word usage is more important that focusing on worrying about how to spell the word.
So, I think I would agree with the reasoning for the change.
Does anyone really use a typewriter anymore? Word processing software should make everyone a better speller.
Heck even TigerNet checks your spelling. Though I always chuckle that the TigerNet spell checker thinks "TigerNet" is spelled incorrectly.

Besides being the home of the UNC Tar Heels, Chapel Hill is also referred to as "the San Francisco of the South" due to its cultural diversity and liberal politics.
Just like SF, most of the men there have the ghey! The worst year of my life was there. I am convinced that anyone that decides to go there is either gay, or right on the verge of it. You cannot visit there and want to go there if you are straight.

If watching two men make out offends you, then it probably is not the place for you.
Great find by the way. Just shows that I am not making any of this up.

I think I'll get a UNC-CHeat t-shirt made up to wear to any event we have against UNC-CHeat.

In any sport regardless of professional or amateur it will be met with the harshest penalties because it affects the very integrity of the game.
We can grandstand all we want about "academic integrity" but we all know for most elite athletes the college experience is nothing more than training for a professional career. Don't get me wrong this benefits the university MUCH more than the athletes but its the system we have.

IMHO, pay to play in the worst NCAA offense.
PLENTY of students cheat their way thru college, athletes and non-athletes alike.

a violations list for SCAR. I thought it was funny that the first item was "improperly certified degree applicable hours." And that it is a secondary violation. Perhaps the NCAA has so little respect for SCAR's academics....
Also noticed that one of the violations was for a football coach's wife sending handwritten notes to NLI signees. Apparently prostituting your wife is not a big deal either.

every program does this. That's why football players have useless sociology degrees and online/take home exams.
Just go ask any of them how many exams they have.

BS ... As long as they earn their "useless" Sociology degrees and actually take their own online/take home exams, then it's not academic fraud. If you're claiming that all schools do what UNC is being punished for, I say BS. And I don't mean Bachelor of Science either.

Not in the ACC. You get an extra year for $50.00 handshakes and a slap on the wrist for academic fraud.

X2. Easy course is one thing, what UNC admitted was sickening. Forget the rest, not easy to do, but the whole joint effort at active fraud in academics warrants special treatment. Guess the ACC angry letter isn't what I expected.
