Gods Country Vineyard Update

Nov 6, 2018, 11:59 AM

Growing season is over. The Vidal Blanc vines did very well for their first year, much better than expected. (Pic attached) The Chardonnay plants did terrible (pic attached) and seem to barely be hanging on. I may see what happens next year and then take them out to replace w a Pinot Nero or Cabernet Hybrid.

I may have viable fruit next year on the Vidal Blanc plants to make some wine. Should be ready for spring game 2020.

And yes the pics are sideways... idc

good hops don't grow well anywhere in the United States

Nov 6, 2018, 12:22 PM

REAL hops, not that crap that they use in your fancy IPAs, noble hops are grown in the old country.

I'm being smart. The linked article says it all.

Good hops = noble hops = the Old Country.

That's why yer Pilsner Urquells, your Stellas, your Budwars, etc. are so delicious.

Where is your vineyard? Your best grapes depend on terroir.

Nov 6, 2018, 12:18 PM

APM is a bit of a wino. What rootstock do you use?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg2016_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

vineyard is in the upstate off the Chestnut Ridge heritage preserve.

Nov 6, 2018, 12:26 PM

It’s located in the correct climate zone for vinifera varietals or Hybrids. I used clone plants from a reputable online dealer.

Probably plant some red this spring. Maybe Cabernet franc or a hybrid red.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I recommend Cab Franc. Comes out kinda herby/spicy/vegetably

Nov 6, 2018, 2:51 PM

but it is one of the few reds you can grow properly on da Eass Coass.

If you need a consultant, APM is for hire.
