Per Larry Williams there is a countdown clock to SCAR

[1]

Per his Twitter post there is a countdown clock in every position meeting room, counting down to the SCAR game. Anyone know if true.....Larry says Cole Stoudt told him.

We need to take this shiot super cereal this year. The streak ends this year! And the start of our own winning streak over the coots!

Our biggest priority is game #12? We play 11 games before we get them. The countdown clock should be kickoff for Georgia.

Actually no. Supposedly when Spurrier got to SC he took down anything Clemson related because he didn't want the focus to be on the last game of the season every year.

Well if that's what you think, it must be working. But I doubt it is, Clemson is the one with the chip on the shoulder right now, even in baseball, celebrating the way they did on Sunday only to get their butts handed to them by a disciplined team.

I guess that is why he mentions Clemson at every press

However, if beating USC isn't a central focus for us this year then we have a major problem. Are you OK with six in a row?

I'm with you. I'll never understand how someone who can endure what we have for the 5 years can say "oh, this isn't the most important game of the season."

ARE YOU EFFIN KIDDING ME?

Re: So we've turned into them now?

While you can say that game #12 doesn't mean anything unless you win the first 11 the more important thing is that in the new playoff system games 1-11 will mean nothing but a trip to Nashville if we don't win game #12, combine that with game #12 being the coots and yes this is the most important game on the schedule.

So does this mean we're going to lose by 3 TDs this year instead of the typical 2TD's that we've lost by in 4 of the past 5 years?

C'mon man. This doesn't make any sense. I think the coaches realize they have to take a different mental approach to the game.

IF a clock assures a victory over the coots then great but

we have some IMPORTANT games before November. IF I had to choose between the coots and FSU for a victory it would be FSU.

I don't know why you would choose a 6th straight loss to USC in exchange for a FSU win, especially when beating FSU doesn't guarantee anything. Beating SCAR guarantees we end this unprecedented streak.

oh sure. no one should want to beat the reigning national

Beating the reigning national champs means nothing without being able to beat the coots. We can beat FSU like a drum but a without a win against the coots we will not be a playoff team.

Re: oh sure. no one should want to beat the reigning national

Posted: Mar 7, 2014 9:56 AM

^^^This is the point that is lost here.

Had we beaten FSU this year but still lost the Coot game like we did, there's a very good chance that we would have still played in the Orange Bowl. (Not that that's bad...just to say that our post season prospects don't automatically get better with an FSU win)

Normally, I would agree, but this year beating SCAR needs to be priority number 1. Six in a row is flat out wrong. My graduating class and the class after mine went their entire college career without a win over the gamecocks in football. It needs to stop now.

Why he hell not. At this point, I honestly can't understand why anyone would question us changing things up a bit. In case yall've been MIA since the Bush administration, what's we've been doing aint working.

Also, it's not just that's we're emphasizing a single game per year in typical Lou Holtz fashion. We're emphasizing avoiding an unprecedented streak in the series.

What can it hurt

[1]
Posted: Mar 6, 2014 3:12 PM

Seems to me that Dabo is reminding his players everyday that they are better than us right now and that we have to work harder to beat them. Obviously treating it just like any other game has not went well in our favor the past few years so its time to mix it up and try a different approach.

That's what's wrong with Clemson now. Taking the Coot game too serious. Look what happened in baseball. We need to take one game at a time. All Clemson needs to worry about right now is Jawga, no one else.

Re: Per Larry Williams there is a countdown clock to SCAR

[2]

If you listened to any of the coaches over the last two years the approach has been to treat it just like any other game and that has worked real great for us the last two years. They have not given the coots the respect that they were a decent team then they shut down our high powered offense and let a QB run past us like we were standing still two years in a row. If you want our players to hate the coots the way the fans do, tell them that they are better than us and remind them of how they have beat us and by game time they will be ready to lay a beat down on some chickens.

Not sure how I feel about this.
On one hand, like many of you have stated, Spurrier removed all things Clemson from their locker room and now has the upper hand in the rivalry. He changed their mentality.
On the other hand, losing 5 straight aint gonna cut it so I'm up for trying to change something.

Re: Per Larry Williams there is a countdown clock to SCAR

Posted: Mar 6, 2014 8:21 PM

he did that when he got there but then it became the most important thing there was to them. #### every time he opens his mouth now he mentions that team in the upstate.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg

LOL....

[1]
Posted: Mar 6, 2014 8:25 PM

When Spurrier was hired he said, "We don't care about Clemson, we care about winning SEC championships".

Beating Clemson has been his main objective ever since.

Re: LOL....

[1]
Posted: Mar 6, 2014 9:04 PM

beating clemson is one of our main accomplishments under spurrier - but it's still not his main objective. SEC championship is the main objective, and setting that as the objective has helped change the culture, raise the standards and ultimately beat clemson, even tho we haven't reached the main objective.

Re: Per Larry Williams there is a countdown clock to SCAR

Posted: Mar 7, 2014 7:53 PM

And we really think a clock will help motivate? Really??? By the time Nov. rolls around it will hardly be noticed.

This clock is the first time I think I've seen Dabo use negative motivation

[1]
Posted: Mar 6, 2014 10:36 PM

Dabo is usually only positive, maybe to a fault. The "0-5" seems to be really large font relative to the size of the clock and is certainly not telling the team how "great" they are, which is Dabo's usual m.o.

Re: Per Larry Williams there is a countdown clock to SCAR

Posted: Mar 6, 2014 10:44 PM

I doubt that is true. Too much emphasis on one game can only do harm. Lou Holtz put 'Beat Clemson' signs all over the Carolina locker rooms from what I was told, and that did not work out so well. Just be the best team we can be, and the Carolina game will work itself out.

One thing I didn't miss is.....the whole Countdown Clock reaps of signs of desperation.

Re: Yeah it seems to work for Scar so we are trying it***

Posted: Mar 7, 2014 10:44 AM

At this point I would say we are getting pretty desperate so the coaches have to do something. A countdown clock is just a subtle reminder to the team that is all.

Re: Yeah it seems to work for Scar so we are trying it***

Posted: Mar 7, 2014 1:33 PM

I don't think something like this is bad. What's embarrassing is that it's up in March. The week leading up to the game maybe. But give me a break, this is humiliating. The clock should be counting down to the Georgia game.

The worst part is that it was spoken about to the press. I doubt this picture would be available if it had not been mentioned in an interview.
