PGA event behavior

I've noticed at US Open, PGA, and even Masters a bunch of yelling and boorish behavior every time a shot has been struck. When did this become acceptable? It is worse around some players rather than others. This isnt the Ryder Cup where rooting is expected. What's up with people? I mean seriously it's ridiculous

Where there is alcohol, there will be loudness. We are losing all sportsmanship qualities in this country. Showboating, selfish mannerisms, attention gathering, and intimidation seems to be the norm now. They need to start escorting the shouters off the golf course.

When Ray Floyd was either in contention or in a Playoff (it might have been against Nick Faldo). Every time Floyd hit, there was some tool screaming “You Da Man”. Unfortunately, it has escalated and is 100 times worse now.

I agree. However, it would be cool to have another league or maybe more designated events where the rowdiness is encouraged. I am a traditionalist so I do think that it has gotten way out of control. Just saying adding more events where it is encouraged may provide an avenue for those who wish to be rowdy. It would also likely help golf gain more viewership.

PGA tour has lost me as a fan

I guess I am spoiled, because I grew up with Jack/Arnie/Tom Watson, then got Tiger/Phil, but today's tour just isn't as interesting/exciting to me. The players look different, very few have any personality, and the rivalries just aren't compelling to me.
Several years ago, I quit watching everything except the majors and Ryder Cup. I sat in front of the TV basically all weekend, as was my Father's Day wish, and it was pretty much a dud in my book.
Maybe I am just old and cranky, but I think the only golf I will watch live going forward is the Ryder Cup and (maybe) The Masters. Father's Day will be very different around my house going forward.

If I’d ever acted or said anything other than clap when my dad took me to pga events... I probably wouldn’t be alive today. Different era than I’m from... and ur right, it was wonderful back then. You didn’t have spectators 7-8 deep. More like 1, maybe 2 rows deep if it was jack, Arnie, player etc.

called the Hall of Fame Classic (the PGA hall of fame used to be there). One year, when we were about 12 (around 1980), my cousin and I got pulled out of the crowd to be "standard bearers". What a thrill it was to walk inside the ropes with the players. I can still remember the names of my players, all relative unknowns - Ed Sabo, Stuart Taylor and Carlton White.
We also stayed at the same hotel as Hubert Green's caddie ("Killer", I think), and made friends with him. We got to meet and shake hands with Hubie.

It was rather funny last night trying to interpret what the yahoos in the crowd would yell each time a club was swung. My wife and I finally decided it was just random sounds. no real words used. like a 17 year neck on a rope swing in the summer, right after he says "he yall, watch dis"

I think it's the same as it has been for the past decade as far as rowdiness / decorum.
Mics are super sensitive now so I'm chalking up that to being why we hear so much at home.

not only the yelling, but people filming every little thing with their phones. Who's going to watch back Woodland talking to his caddie in portrait mode next week?
It's a combination of alcohol and the tv cameras. I don't remember who it was a couple of weeks ago, maybe Koepka, but they hit it off into the crowd. When they went to hit it, there were so many people crowded around filming, then after he hit it, all these bros came running from behind the ropes to get on TV. It was ridiculous.

I have not , nor do I expect to see it at the Masters. You are a guest there and your ticket can be revoked at their discretion and if they revoke it you (or the owner of the ticket) will not get it back ..... ever). Getting tickets to the Masters is too valuable to lose them by yelling "mashed potatoes" or "boba bouie".

Thank Goodness. But, as was in much evidence this week, that drunken behavior has gone to the highest levels of the Tour. I hope the PGA of America takes some steps to curb this soon. Everyone knows there are barrels full of loonies in California, but the yelling on every shot, every hole was a bit much. They should take a page out the Masters playbook. They would have been "escorted" off the property before the scream died down.

I dont mind cheering, but the idiots at Pebble beach were beyond stupid. The PGA is going to have to start throwing the drunks out.

Worse fans I've ever seen at a US Open. This year when a shot was in a trap, or in deep rough you could hear the same person laughing at the players problem. How was he always around the mic? There was also continued yelling. I always enjoyed watching a PGA golf event, but I don't feel it relaxing or enjoyable with the current fans attending. Drunks should be removed.
