The City of Wast Columbia PD is taking appropriate action ro contain unrest to the east side of the Congarer River. Lexington Co. Is assisting. You can not travel from Columbia to West Cola or West Cola to the Columbia side. There are no problems now but please stay clear.
The police department is shutting down the Gervais Street bridge to curtail traffic coming into and out of Columbia. Due to the civil unrest immediately present, the mayor has declared a state of emergency for West Columbia and has instituted a curfew immediately until 6 AM. During this time our ordinances prohibit the following: 2-3-6 Prohibited activities. During the existence of a proclaimed state of emergency when a curfew has been defined and imposed, it shall be unlawful for anyone subject to curfew to: (1) Be or travel upon any public street, alley or roadway or upon public property unless such travel is necessary to obtain medical assistance; (2) Possess off one's own premises, buy, sell, give away or otherwise transfer or dispose of any explosives, firearms, ammunition or dangerous weapon of any kind; (3) Sell beer, wines or intoxicating beverages of any kind; or possess or consume the same off one's own premises; or (4) Sell gasoline or any other similar petroleum products or any other combustible or inflammable substances, except as expressly authorized by the provisions of the curfew imposed. We will be scheduling an emergency council meeting within 24 hours. The council meeting will be conducted virtually.

The majority of people who rioted in Columbia today were not from here. Seems to be a common theme. The organizations who put the "protests" together were not local either. Local reporter hit by a rock. Mob tried to beat a cop and that's when the rubber bullets and tear has came out.
