I'm a liberal but in favor of voter id nationwide.
This is 2020, not 1960. If someone can't somehow get an ID, its on them. Just mho.

If having to produce a voter ID is tantamount to voter suppression, then bag the whole idea of producing an ID for anything. Just in the last few days I had to produce my ID to make a bank deposit, stay in a hotel and see a physician. It's total BS not to require voter ID. Even if a person doesn't have a driver's license, in SC, anyone over age 17 can get a FREE ID from the DMV. There is a reason that people advocate against producing a simple ID to vote. It's to allow for cheating. The Dems who advocate against Voter ID say it's racist and disenfranchises folks. I suspect most folks see a doctor at least every few years. To prevent insurance and Medicare fraud, one has to produce an ID. Are the doctor's being racist? TSA? Hotels? No, it's pretty clear what is going on. Name me one non- Democratic politician who is against Voter ID? I don't know of any. It's the same crowd that wants to give 16 year olds and illegals(undocumented) persons the right to vote. No ID--No vote should be the rule. This is part of the problem with mail in ballots and certainly mass mail outs to anyone on the voter rolls.

Well in Florida for instance, If the address on your license does not match the Address on your voter registration, you will be sent home from the Ballot Box. This makes things more difficult and expensive for younger voters who may be in college, or move more often because they rent. Once you are registered, they send a new voter application to the address they have on file with the DMV, if you move, and do not change your address, then you become inactive. So basically if you do not pay the DMV to change your address, you will have to jump through a million hoops to get re registered if you miss that all important piece of mail.
These laws were all put into place to suppress younger, often educated voters, as well as the poor.

yeah, another cool thing about Florida is you do not have to surrender your out of state license when you get one here, and by virtue of having one you are able to vote via absentee, even if you live in Connecticut, are a Connecticut resident, and just have a vacation home in Florida.
this is why Trump said absentee balloting is BAD, except in Florida. I mean he literally did it himself this year. Unless he spent 187 complete days at Mar Lago, he committed a felony.

Everytime I've moved, one of the first things I've done is change my address. So, I don't understand how others can't figure out how to do the same.

My question is why. Why do we need this voter ID law ?
Voter fraud has been a Republican boogeyman for the last 2 decades and no one has found any evidence that it exists. The Bush Administration selected a commission to root it out and found - NOTHING.
https://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/12/washington/12fraud.html
Republicans looked in New Mexico, Kansas, West Virginia and found only the odd and most random of cases.
https://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/12/washington/12fraud.html
https://www.propublica.org/article/kris-kobach-voter-fraud-kansas-trial
Voter ID is just the shiny face that Republicans put on voter suppression. Some demographic tend not to vote Republ;ican, so Voter ID is just a ruse to make it harder for those people to vote. It is a solution to a problem (voter fraud) that does NOT exist.
https://www.aclu.org/other/oppose-voter-id-legislation-fact-sheetOppose Voter ID Legislation - Fact Sheet BackgroundVoter identification laws are a part of an ongoing strategy to roll back decades of progress on voting rights. Thirty-four states have identification requirements at the polls. Seven states have strict photo ID laws, under which voters must present one of a limited set of forms of government-issued photo ID in order to cast a regular ballot – no exceptions.
In fact, the rtepublicans have admitted as much - repeatedly.
https://www.kaporcenter.org/florida-gop-leaders-admit-voter-suppression-was-motive-behind-voter-laws/Florida GOP Leaders Admit Voter Suppression Was Motive Behind Voter Laws The Palm Beach Post revealed this week that former Florida GOP leaders intentionally designed restrictive voter laws to limit votes from Democrats and people of color. Florida voters, as we saw in this year’s election endured long voting lines and other confusion as a result of reduced voting hours, voter purges, and voter registration restrictions pushed by Republican leaders. Welcome back to the 1970’s. No thank you.
States should have defined, controlled but without restrictions procedures for voter registration. Procedures should also ensure verification of a ballot to a registered voter without compromising the secrecy of an individual’s vote.
I haven’t shown an ID since 2000 _ voted by mail every election. Recently have capability to personally check receipt/ acceptance of my ballot online.
Seems some of the elderly are stuck in a different century.
