How much longer ESPN?

Dabo has been the Clemson head coach for going on 10 years now. How long before all of your announcers learn that his name is not DAH - bo? C'mon people! (Just re-watching the GT game.)

Seriously? You can't understand THAT comment?

Ok I had a cousin who had some processing issues so I understand. What he's saying is the announcers are still mispronouncing Dabo's name after 10 years as a coach.

I know, it’s irritating. Day-bo or dah-bo, seems like that’s the only way they can pronounce it.

I haven't heard DAY-bo that I can remember, but that might be worse. These announcers are supposed to become very familiar with the teams during the week leading up to the game. You would think they could at least learn to pronounce the coach's name.

all French and sophisticated. He's from dadgum Pelham, Alabama!
All they need to know is that the origin of the name was toddler-speak for "dat boy" and it's very easy.
But, on the other hand, you can't fix stupid.....

who wrongly pronounce pecan "pe-CAHN" instead of "pe-CAN".
"DAB-o", not "DAHB-o" "pe-CAN", not "pe-CAHN".
But I've heard Yankees say it that way my whole life.

you are correct - I capitalized the mispronounced syllable

for emphasis in the post, not for proper pronunciation. I assume people at least know how to say the word, even of they don't pronounce "c-a-n" correctly. My mistake there.
The proper pronunciation, at least in the Southern stratum, is indeed "PEE-can".

You say Day-bo
Sep 24, 2018, 11:20 AM
|
|
You say Day-bo I say Dah-bo You say Clem-zen I say Clem-son Day-bo, Dah-bo, Clem-zen, Clem-son Let's call the whole thing off!
Fine-bam says Clem-zen and Day-bo unless he's interviewing Dah-bo then he pronounces the words correctly. So he's obviously doing it on purpose.
I can understand the Dabo gaffe, but "Clem-zen"? I don't get it.
No one says Ander-zen, or Peter-zen, or Sam-zen, or Jack Nichol-zen.
At least ESPN is talking Clemson and Dabo even if they are forced into it.
Keep winning and they will keep talking.
What's the old saying? "You can call me anything, just don't call me late for dinner."

Even worse are the idiots who continue putting a "Z" in Clemson!! It is about as bad as "Dandy" Don Munson mispronouncing "Carolina" by leaving the "ro" out of the word. He also constantly says this "safternoon" instead of "afternoon" as well. Frankly I don't think he has a clue he is doing it, but he sure sounds bad. I miss Jim Philips on our broadcasts.
I guess we just have to put up with stupidity sometimes, but it does get frustrating.
Go Tigers!

Funny story on ESPN and pronuciations
Sep 25, 2018, 9:34 AM
|
|
Was in an elevator with Chris Fowler - told him, love your work, but there is no Z in Clemson.
His answer - some people just say it that way
Me - I don't call your school Colo-RAY-do now do I?
Him - door opens, he quickly exits. Got the distinct impression he didn't like me

I was yelling at the tv the other day when I heard those clowns saying it wrong. It’s so simple, I don’t understand how they continue to get it wrong year after year. We need to start a campaign on the right pronunciation.
