Thanks for asking
Spent the day skiing at Sugar. Took a buddy that's never skied/snowboarded before that wanted to go. Naturally he choose snowboarding and spent all day on his @ss until he gave up and sat in the lodge.
I hung out with a couple snowboarders from Winston Salem getting some pretty decent video with the GoPro. As best I could. These two just, from the top, just pointed down hill and went. And when I say went I mean hauling @ss (which I get is a relative term). After watching the video I found we covered 1.2 miles in just around 3 mins. One guy had an app that said our highest speed was 33mph. Thats the fastest I've ever gone unassisted by a combustible engine. Without further ado...

in deep even a few inches of powder and tight turns, its a must for stability, but in NC, yeah probably dont need them.

you've been skiing, at some level, for a few years at least, based on TNET poasts
You're about my height based on meating you once. ONCE.
longer skis are going to track better, especially on east coast snow, ESPECIALLY-especially on NC snow.
granted, at first, you may sacrifice maneuverability/stopability for a boost in stability, but it'd be short-lived

can't recall the size but I found them a lot more difficult to maneuver making it more difficult to stop. I don't want to run into anything on accident and I like the idea of skiing easy, relaxed and fun. If I wanted to work I'd.....go to work.
Also, in NC resorts I don't get the desire to be the fastest down the mountain. The chairlift look 3-4 times as long to get up to the top.

i've got a 3+ silver (maybe just a '3', not the plus)
been thinking REAL hard about picking up a 7....however, I'm prob not skiing this year, so maybe I wait till they hit sale prices....or REI refund comes in next month
I can tell you that 66mph while strapped to the front of my boot is shaky AF

and couldn't get the bros' schedules aligned this year, so nothing on the books
I was looking thru previous years stats on Trace (née Alpine Replay)...u can tell how the week progresses. Hit the hard stuff & trees early (speeds are a lot lower, runs are longer, etc...) , and as the 3-4 days goes on, and legs are all lik "I'm DONE with dat ish", we hit the 'groomers', max speeds and sustained speeds go up
low to high 30's for max early on....to high 50's / low 60's last days
