My Dad, class of '61, turns 78 today. I'm hoping the boys pull out a big "W" to fulfill his birthday wish.
He is the reason my brother and I are such die hard Tiger fans, and now his grandsons as well. We moved from Charleston to Va. Beach when I was five, making it to Death Valley was tough however, he managed to take us to Blacksburg, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, or Charlottesville if the Tigers were in town. Unfortunately, I witnessed the first conference football loss to UVA in Charlottesville as a young teenager.
I've always enjoyed hearing Dad's Clemson stories, such as seeing a young Pistol Pete ride his bicycle across campus while bouncing a basketball. He said you would also see him in the dining hall with a basketball in hand, never saw him without it. Or my favorite story of how he ended up with a game ball from the last Big Thursday game in '59. We grew up with that ball on the mantle in our living room, he wrote the name of the teams, the score, and had most of the 1959 Tiger football team sign it. I will post a picture of it and tell the story closer to the Carolina game.
