I don't know why Clemson is mispronounced so often, the founder, Thomas Green Clemson, is from Pennsylvania, not a "southern" name. He came south to survey Calhoun's plantation and fell in love with his daughter and stayed. As a rat I was taught to say "Clem-son", no "Z".
