I've been investigating the present law that prevents craft beer makers from distributing more that 25000 barrels per year in NC themselves. If you exceed that amount you have to use distributors. It seems quite stupid at face value, so my questions are:
1. Why do you think this law was ever created ? 2. I'm trying to find out who actually lobbies to keep this law. Is it distributors, teamsters or companies like AB Inbev ?
The middleman has to make his job important, so he pushes for and keeps laws in place to insure his livelihood.
Antiquated booze laws do not follow the idea of common sense. I can't buy a keg of beer at a brewery in SC...but I can go buy one at total wine.
Then ABInBev goes and buys up craft breweries and squeezes out other brews on the shelf. They own the brewery, the distribution, and most of the shelf space. And this is why I will never purchase space dust, pernicious/freak of nature, or wolf mother/pup.
