Charlie Daniels’ career origins......

Jul 7, 2020, 12:06 AM

Couple years ago SiriusXM drew my name to go watch a live interview with Charlie Daniels about a new book he had written. My wife and I went and it was really cool. There were probably 20 people there and we got to meet Charlie afterwards. When he saw my Clemson hat (he had his UT hat on) he pretty much derailed the handshake line by talking college football with me for several minutes. Just a great dude.

Anyway, he repeated the story of how he got his start in this interview, and it still fascinates me that a talent and personality as different from Charlie as Bob Dylan is the reason he had his start, and the fact that the stars aligned perfectly so he could sub for another guy that one day to play bass for Dylan Is pretty incredible. Actually, he fact that he’s known for fiddle but is accomplished enough to be a studio player on bass and guitar is pretty amazing too.

Anyways, lots of cool stories about this guy and I know a lot of you are more familiar with his early stuff than I was...he was Just one of a kind.

good ol’ boy played with two of the best songwriters of our time. But also made great music on his own.

And dayum sure loved the South and loved America.

album. That's a LATE start for a recording artist in any rock-based genre. Go back and listen to his first few records when you get a minute...some of his best stuff and BEFORE the hits started rolling in.

I think we can both agree that it’s fortunate for us that he had a lot of good ideas and came to Nashville with them.
