Clowney was, IMHO, a pretty good example of the notion that "every rule has its exceptions." He should have been allowed to go to the NFL last year...when he probably would have been #1...then.
Tough situation for the kid this year...all he could do was hurt himself, and his stock...and he had to do it pretty much for free. If Clowney was up-and-down, and seemed a little...pensive, and reluctant to get himself hurt...well, when you stand to lose an almost $50 million payday by shredding an ACL or blowing an Achilles, you can certainly understand it.
I actually hope Clowney gets that #1 pick. It'd be a shame if alleged "attitude issues" stemming mostly from the fact that the NCAA is a billion-dollar industry that makes its money off players who are not allowed to partake in the financial rewards of their efforts (until, that is, that magical day when 2% - repeat, two per cent - of them finally get drafted into the NFL and sign their first real paycheck) cost him some of what his talent has earned. After watching the kid play his freshman and sophomore years, anyhow...I'm convinced, anyhow, that he's the best defensive player I've seen in the last 10 years or so.
