I say that in the title as I encourage everyone to save it. If I turn out to be wrong, you can rub it in my face. And for the sake of our country, I hope you get to rub it in my face.
Trump's an authoritarian and adores authoritarian leaders. We aren't going to debate that, and to claim otherwise is to willfully ignore his statements throughout this presidency. One of the authoritarians Trump likes is Turkey's Erdogan, and upon closer examination, that's the one that worries me the most. Because Erdogan has laid out a nice plan for seizing more power, and if Trump looks to gain more drastically, it's a good blueprint.
I predict an attempt like this would happen between this November and 2020 if the Democrats take control of Congress, or at least gain enough to gridlock Trump.
In 2016, you may remember a failed military coup in Turkey. It was put down very swiftly, almost a little too swiftly. Erdogan has used this coup as a reason to call a perpetual state of emergency. He's extended six times. He's used this state of a emergency as an excuse to crack down on political opponents or anyone who doesn't fall in lockstep with him.
The aftermath has been over 50,000 people arrest and a purge of 110,000 civil servants. He's taken control of the media or punished journalists, and he bypasses parliament with his orders. Erdogan even calls early elections to ensure he can keep power.
Basically, Turkey's a dictatorship now and they used a military coup as reason to become that. Of course, the coup is suspicious in itself and looks as if it was staged as an excuse to seize more power.
So, could Trump do the same? If the Dems took control, I can see the following:
-Trump, compliant GOPers, and compliant military officials stage a coup. -It's swiftly defeated and Trump calls a state of emergency, citing extraordinary circumstance. -Key Democrat opponents are identified as contributers and arrested. -Suspicions are raised by other Dems and government officials sufficient enough to purge them. -FBI and other DOJ officials are particularly targeted. -Fear will force some into loyalty to Trump. Those who speak out will be labeled as possible conspirators. -Crackdowns on the media begin, with the admin citing aid and comfort to the conspirators of the coup and spreaders of their propaganda. Enough hatred will have been created towards the press that there will be enough public support. -Educators will be targeted and purged if they do not push pro-Trump views in the classroom or teach anything that goes against his ideology. -Trump's supportive Supreme Court will be able to back his moves. -Sure, Americans will speak out and raise hell at first. But enough fear of losing their jobs or going to jail will eventually silence them. -Elections will be held at Trump's whim once he has full control. He'll use more executive orders to get his way, or at least a complacent, controlled Congress will go along with him.
Insane, right? Yeah, some of you are chomping at the bit to respond and mock it. That's fine. That's why I told you to save it. But we have a narcissistic, authoritarian, megalomaniac president with an admin swimming in corruption. And he loves to be in control. It's not that shocking if you look at how it's happened in other countries.
So we'll let it play out and see if I'm right or dead wrong. Let's hope you get to drag this post out and make fun of me a couple of years from now.

That's a media-generated talking point used to prime the unwitting public (you) to respond the way they want when trump drops the hammer on the swamp. 90% of their coverage of Trump is negative. You have to think for yourself.

Help me out. Where is the word "dictator" in the first sentence?
"I say that in the title as I encourage everyone to save it."
I did use the word "dictatorship" in reference to Turkey. Do you disagree that it's now a dictatorship?

kinda like Pelosi saying that this Supreme Court pick is the end of civilization as we know it.
But if you truly believe that drivel you posted, you really need help.
I voted for Trump. If he continues on his path, I will vote for him again.
If he stages the coup you claim, I will be the first to raise arms against him.

She said that?

What a crazy idea that a free society could eventually fall to authoritarianism. I bet it's never happened.
I voted for Trump. If he continues on his path, I will vote for him again.
If he stages the coup you claim, I will be the first to raise arms against him.
If what I listed happens and Trump is able to make it look like someone in our government tried to oust him from office, you'll be right there supporting him.
Let me guess... you think the Russian investigation is a Democratic witch hunt, right?

Seemed like a pretty good dude.
Hey, remember how everyone used to make fun of Geechie about his claim that he had watched the water rise in the Charleston area about a foot over a span of time, and then we proved that in fact it had risen that much, and then everyone suddenly #### about it?
Good times.

I googled that, and could find anyone else saying it then, and I can't find it now.
Having lived on or near the coast for a little less than twice that amount of time, I'm still calling BS.

This is about as close as I can find

From what I remember, Geechie was 83 when he passed. And he only lived in Edisto for the last 20 years or so.
Since 1883, the global mean sea level rise has been ~8 inches, at least according to the data that Charleston.gov produces. Remember, that GLOBAL sea level rise is quite different than LOCAL sea level rise, that could be higher or lower, depending a bunch of different boring things.
http://www.charleston-sc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/12347
Add to that..I don't know how one might be able to tell the sea level difference by looking at marsh grass (which is what Geechie said). The levels of the mud the marsh grass grows in changes yearly, and is heavily dependent on storms, rain, and silt accumulation (or erosion). Measuring anything by the pluff mud height and the grass growing in it, at least in the lowcountry, isn't going to be reliable in a month, much less over 20-25 years.
I've been told to never speak Ill of the dead, so I don't. But I will say, again, I can't find anything to back up that somewhat wild claim, and I certainly don't recall anyone ever proving it.

Can't remember the source but it was a reliable one. It was 11 inches during the time Geechie claimed. Close enough, and everyone stopped making fun of him about it.

I don't remember it.
One would think if the rise were that drastic, google searching "what is the sea level rise in Charleston the last 25 years" would yield a result pretty easily.

people on this board won’t pull this post out in a year to make fun of you. Theyll just write you off as a nut job.
In the past 24 hours you’ve defended the idea that Trump is a Russian plant decades in the making and said you would bet on a military coup attempt leading to a dictatorship if the Democrats take Congress in November.
That is some seriously fringe thinking. Like “what’s he been smoking?” thinking. At the very least it eliminates your platform to mock the Obama birth era or other such people.
But, as you once counseled me...”You do you.”

Of course, I've attached a quick summary of what I think about what people here think about me:

Hey, it is crazy right?
And I bet if someone told you 10 years ago that Donald Trump would be our president one day, that we'd be breaking down our relationship with NATO countries, and that we would be warming up to Putin and Russia, you'd probably call that person crazy too, right?
