My hunting partner had this hog patterned. He knew what time he was eating and where he was sleeping. Sent Duke and Bandit down the river this morning, through a cow field and 790 yards later. Caught hog.

Gotta take size into account with wild hogs

The one in the pic is marginal for good eating. About 130lbs or so is the top weight for decent BBQ from a wild pig. Larger than that the meat gets very tough and gamey.

Only say this because I BBQed a 340lb wild hog in highschool. Meat was not good at all. We were told not to BBQ but highschool. Never BBQ anything over about 130lb or so since.

Be VERY careful with wild hog meat

Aug 5, 2018, 10:19 AM

A very high percentage of these hogs from the low country carry brucelosis. And you CAN get it from consuming the meat. This ain't no joke.

Take it to the brucelosis board.***

Usually he gets them around Athens area or south of.

Aug 5, 2018, 1:52 PM

He kills hogs for a living around the state. Utility companies pay him.

He ought to go into the wild boar business

Aug 5, 2018, 4:58 PM

Know a guy who traps wild hogs. Fattens them up to a NICE weight, then sells them to hunting plantations who release them so Yankee tourists can pay thousands to come to SC and kill a 300lb "wild" hog.
