4 teams is not enough ...
Aug 12, 2015, 8:05 AM
|
|
They will bend over backwards to get a Big12 team in this year (Spot 1) Mandatory SEC entry (Spot 2) Hyping the PAC12 like crazy (Spot 3) That leaves the ACC and Big10 and rest of SEC for Spot 4.
ACC rep will have to be perfect this year ... and that may not be enough.
I think if Baylor / TCU and a couple more teams were in the mix last year, the outcome would have been different.

If we are perfect we will be in one of the top 2 spots before the year is out. If we are down 1 game we will be 6th - 9th spot at years end. ----- ALL IN --------

They cannot keep a perfect team out of the top 4.

No matter how hard they try...they can't do it. In no way would an undefeated ACC team be left out of the Playoffs in any situation.
HTH that helps.

Don't bet on that, although unlikely

What if USC, OhSt, Baylor and Clemson went undefeated, and BAMA is 12-1. Alabama won't be left out, USC and OHST won't be left out, too much tradition. It's between us and Baylor for the final spot. Even though we played the better schedule, they give the 4th spot to Baylor, because of last year.
Not a likely scenario, but not impossible. More likely to happen is we go 12-1, but a two loss SEC champ goes in ahead of us. I am telling you, with this four team setup, there is a good chance someone gets screwed every year. It is ludicrous to have five major conferences and only 4 spots. If all five conference champs were automatic, it would take 90% of the subjectivity and bias out of the committee's hands.

If all 5 conferences had a perfect team (is that possible?), I'm guessing the Big12 would still get left out because of the conference championship game, right?

Leave it at 4. No reason to keep expanding this thing and watering it down. Funny thing is last year when it looked as if two SEC teams might make it in all you heard on ESPN was it should be the best 4 teams no matter what conference. Fast forward to now, a year later and the "experts" foresee a chance that the mighty SEC will "beat each other up" and no one finishes with less than two losses. This would possibly make it to where the SEC gets left out. Listen to how ESPN is playing it now. Now they are all about conference champions being in, or expansion. No matter how it seems to play out ESPN wants whatever benefits the SEC, but there's no bias. No SEC bias at all.

8 is the best number.

it allows every P5 team an equal shot, and is enough to overcome conference bias, It's only 3 games, not hard to do.

If it goes to 8, then they'll put 3-4 SEC teams in. Bad idea

You know how this goes. You know how the propaganda runs thick. Each year you'd likely see the winner and loser of Bama vs. Auburn, then the SEC west third place team, plus Georgia- or whomever from the east.

and conference champs are automatic. Folks, it is not that difficult to make it so much better, AND take most of the subjectivity out of the committee's hand. Why can't everyone see this. Do we have to get screwed before you see that 4 is not enough?

rather let teams in that have no business being there or worry about a team being left out? They can get weeks and weeks of ratings worrying about who will be left out. This is all by design.

what if they go 11-1 only losing to Clemson, or maybe GT. They will be up there also for a spot.
Or, what if....
Clemson only loses to ND (by a FG), goes 12-1 and wins the ACC going away Notre Dame loses just one, to say, GT early and is 11-1
Those 2 teams are up for the 4th playoff spot. What is the decision?

I think this depends on how good GT is.

What really needs to happen is somebody from the Coastal that we don't play in the regular season go 11-1ish and GT to go 10-2. This keeps the GT win good and makes the ACC championship game a better potential win.

with identical records, we would be screwed, no way we would get in. Especially if we lost the head to head. Sorry, just being realistic. We are only Clemson, and they are NOTRE by God DAME.
