Sapp Is Making His Case

by - Correspondent -

Ricky Sapp has been considered one of the nation’s top defensive ends all year. On Sunday, he mentioned to us that he wanted to make a statement this week. Thus far, Sapp has not disappointed.

He has been the most impressive player on the South Carolina squad the first two days of practice. The argument can be made that he is the second best player on the field behind North Carolina’s Carl Johnson.

Sapp has showcased a rare blend of size and speed at the defensive end position. He appears to be the ideal fit for the bandit position. Sapp has been dropping back into coverage several times this week at practice. His interception on Tuesday was one of the big highlights.

Sapp is making a strong push to be the number one prospect in South Carolina, when we release our rankings on Monday.

Notes:

- Crezdon Butler has been impressive at receiver. He has really good footwork, and he should be ready to make an immediate impact at corner next season.

- Darius Gaither is playing a little out of position this week, much like Rendrick Taylor last year. Gaither is working almost strictly at corner, and he most definitely projects to be a safety at the next level.

- Julius Wilkerson has been impressive. We will stick by our projection that he is the #1 linebacker in South Carolina. Wilkerson has frame very similar to Anthony Waters in high school. The two look very similar on the football at this stage in their career.
