Game Check List

About 10 or 11 years ago I created a check sheet to evaluate the performance of my favorite football teams and assess their strengths and weaknesses. The criteria was not revolutionary but instead a simple look at a way to analyze a team from game to game. It was a way to see how a team could improve and where it made progress.

I broke this sheet out before the A&M game and mentioned it on the radio show Monday. Several subscribers asked me to post the sheet. See below:

Game Check List

Overall

1. Sportsmanship-Did the team play like true sports and act accordingly?

2. Emotion-Did the team play with emotion and enthusiasm?

3. Fundamentals-Did the team play fundamentally sound overall? Did they play smart and limit penalties?


Offensive Criteria

1. No Turnovers

2. Effective Running Game

A-Block

B-Break Tackles

C-Make People Miss

D-Set up Play Action Game

3. Passing Game

A-Protect

B-Make Right Reads

C-Accuracy in Throws

D-Catch the Football

E-Yards After the Catch

4. First Down Yardage

5. Third Down Conversions

6. Red Zone Effectiveness

7. Be Physical

Defensive Criteria

1. Create Turnovers

2. Stop The Run

3. Pressure The Passer

4. No Big Plays

5. Tackle

6. Play Physical

Special Teams Criteria

1. Execute Fundamentals-Snaps, Extra Points, Short Field Goals, No Turnovers

2. Kick Coverage

3. Create Big Plays-Return Game, Turnovers or Blocked Kicks
