View Full Profile , a much-debated choice when he was selected ninth overall in 2010, wants to make certain his name is not added to a list of prominent flops that includes plump offensive lineman Mike Williams (2002), erratic quarterback J.P. Losman (2004) and injury-plagued defensive tackle John McCargo (2006).

"I know I can play at this level," Spiller says firmly. "It's about me going out and doing it."

"He had a lot to learn. He has learned, I think, a great deal," Gailey says. "It is our responsibility also to put him in position to be more successful, to give him more touches during the ballgame. He's got to get better, too."

Spiller concedes he might have underestimated the difficulty of excelling in the NFL. "This is the best of the best league," he says.
