Everyone here is spitting out Tom Allen's words as being the main reason he left PSU. I'm not saying that geography and family was not part of his decision, not at all.

I'm sure family was bearing on his decision but no coach in his right mind is going to criticize the team he just quit on. None will ever tell you the guy he was working for was a loud mouthed, know-it-all, unbearable punk.

No coach is going to say the fans were an egotistical group of fairies who like to dress up little boys and dance with them.

I'm not even saying either of those are more than exaggerations to make a point. Fact is, we seldom hear NCAA coaches reveal everything that causes them to change job. What we get almost ever time is not much more than we get at pressers, coach speak.

I mean, Tom A couldn't add that he's rather work for Dabo than JF because JF rode him like a rented mule and kept him working all year around. He couldn't say he hates the portal and tampering with players or bidding on them after they enter the portal.

Now he did say something very similar to this: "I want to take kids out of school, develop their skills and accentuate their strong points...'

I took that statement as saying, 'I'd rather work with kids fresh out of high school rather than have them walk onto the practice field and have to unlearn the last system so they fit into this one. I'd love to not worry about my guys hitting the portal after one year and I'd like to work with someone who does recruiting to suit me'

If anyone thinks that he is the only DC with that attitude they might want to remember that Dabo said he got 10 or 11 phone calls from guys interested in the DC job.

I haven't worked for either man but I'm 99.99% positive Dabo isn't unreasonable, deceptive or vengeful.

I believe he and Tom are equally yoked. Dabo said he reached out to people he respected and asked for recommendations. My guess is that he was asking more about character than coaching ability and that Dabo knew the guys he was asking and hadn't just watched film to see if they can coach.

Since it only took a few days to a week to get Allen's decision it's clear that Allen doesn't pull the trigger without aiming and isn't one of those guys who leaps before he looks. Yeah, I know that's ripe with platitudes but...

Allen wasn't trying to bail on a commitment or find the next biggest thing. Some say he wept when he announced that he was leaving PSU. It's likely that those tears were from joy that God had answered his prayer to be nearer his family.

Imo, his decision was both professional and personal. I'm not going to split hairs and say the deciding factor was professional but I really don't think he was willing to move for family ties alone.
