kick, obviously most have forgotten that back in the day, almost ALL home games were 1-1:30 pm kickoffs. Because, we had no lights! The first "modern" night game was in 1992, against....Florida State. Clemson did not want to play that game at night, either, but conference contractural obligations for TV kind of forced our hand. So, the kickoff time was moved from the original 1:30 to 7:30.
Back before the NCAA pansied up football practices, Clemson used to pride ourselves, especially under Danny Ford, in being in better physical shape than the opposition. And, those 1 pm kickoffs, usually in the hot sun, took full advantage of that. We wore many a team down, and took control of games in the 4th quarter due to superior physical conditioning.
But, nowadays, with the player safety mandated cutbacks on practice, NOBODY is in as good a shape from a conditioning standpoint. So, might as well opt for night games whenever possible, to be more comfortable!

We all remember how things were 30 years ago. I'm 41 and was at Clemson in the early 2000s. Doesn't change the fact that in 2023 noon kickoffs suck. Especially for big games like this.

I saw the 81 team’s 2 mile times. They were posted for weeks on the wall in the weight room @ Jervey. Trust me……they weren’t impressive.
I’ll give Perry Tuttle props, he was under 13 minutes. Were they big and strong? Absolutely. Was I impressed with their cardio vascular fitness? Absolutely not.

Is in better shape than the 80s teams. The amount of working out and specialized sports science stuff they do these days blows previous decades out the water.
