athletically inferior teams to use would be the Veer.
That is what the Jeff Grantz led Coots used in 1975, a Yardbird Game Which Shall Live In Infamy.
They spanked our Tigers with me squinting into the noonday sun from the end zone, to the toon of 56-20. Our worst ever beating at the claws of the Beak Brains.
Most miserable game I have ever attended, and not just because of the score. The artificial rug and noon sun combination made the whole field just look white from ground level. You couldn't see a single line on the field, not yard lines, nor sidelines. So, unless somebody scored, you couldn't tell what was going on, as the crowd was ALWAYS loud.

That 1975 Cootfest was an awful game. Many years later, I played against Jeff Grantz in one of the Clemson-Coot Football Alumni Golf Tournaments on Big Thursday before the game. On the first tee we did our introductions and shook hands and wished each other well. I walked over to Grantz' golf cart where he was sitting after we teed off and I spoke to him so nobody else could hear us. I said: "Jeff , we all remember the game in 75 where you went back in late in the game and really rubbed it in our faces. Well Padnah, you better get ready because the same thing is about to happen to you this time." And I walked away. And we did. Grantz and his team lost every hole we played and we closed them out for a perfect score of 10-8 in Match Play. I have to admit, Jeff was a perfect gentleman and took his beating with class. In my eyes, he had it coming! I huge cheer went up from the Clemson guys when they posted that 10-8 hammer job which I will never forget.

If we can find a TE who can block, maybe we can run a single-wing offense.....

The wishbone kind of died away after Danny figured out how to shut it down and showed the world against Switzer's Oklahoma team in the Citrus Bowl.

This brings back fond memories of the SWC They dominated football at the time and were fun to watch. When you have 3-4 really athletic backs and a well coached line it's hard to stop. Ya #### near have to get a turnover to get the ball back. Oklahoma, Texas , Arkansas , Nebraska and Texas A&M were often carbon copies of one another and the backs were the best in the country. If you were a top rated back you played in the SWC. Personally I love watching RBs. The best part of the game for me.

The wishbone would still work scheme wise. The problem is you can't recruit top defensive players because they don't want to practice against it. Another problem is recruiting O linemen that want to play in the NFL aren't going to play in a wishbone offense.

There’s a updated for the wishbone and wing-T it’s called the Veer. And it’s boring to play and watch against that style of offense. Basically you put your best Athlete at QB.

Depends on how you define “work”
If everyone ran the wishbone, we’d see a lot less points scored. Very few people would choose to watch 10-7 games over 38-35 games.

Just to be clear, your a grownup asking someone you do not know to ban someone else you do not know because you feel uncomfortable.
Did you by chance volunteer to take names as a kid when the teacher left the room?
BTW, Woody Dantzler would have been an unbelievable wishbone QB

How many of you remember Mike Eppley? I always thought

he was one of the most underrated Clemson athletes ever. Starting QB on the football team, starting guard on the basketball team. I think the reason he is so seldom mentioned is that he played in the Danny Ford "Probation Years", where we were banned from post season.
The reason I bring up Eppley in this "Wishbone" discussion is, I remember Jim Phillips on the radio back then referring to a "Whirleybird Option" that was run out of some kind of modified wishbone formation. I think ROD-NEE Williams may have also run this some.
