I tried to cut and paste but I couldn't. There are several. There's also a tweet from some guy with Talking ACC Sports (?) that says Wilkins was hinting hard to look at Louisville.

President Barker needs to go. He doesn't give a….

d@mn about athletics. He thinks that dressing up as The Tiger and doing some push ups is going to fool people into thinking that he cares about athletics. Barker only cares about his Don Quixote-esque quest to manipulate the US News & World Report rankings in some lame attempt to get Clemson rated up there with Harvard and MIT. Clemson has always been good in academics. Clemson doesn't need to use manipulation or sacrifice athletics to get some phony ranking to make Clemson look like an Ivy League School. Clemson has always had good academics and good athletics. You don't have to sacrifice either to be good at both.

I'd prefer Barker to focus on Academics. If he can make our football team great while also focusing on academics, great. If he has to sacrifice anything academically for football, the university is no longer an educational institution and has become a glorified pro-sports team with a school attached.
How he handles football affects me 12-14 days a year.
How he handles academics will affect me far more than that.

I think Barker cares about a lot of things. I just thing his priorities are in an order that non-students/alums disagree with. I as a student, completely agree with his priorities.
1. Improve academics 2. Improve sports, if it doesn't have a negative impact on academics.

manipulating the rankings of the US News & World Report in some Don Quixote-esque quest to make Clemson look like their an Ivy League School is unnecessary and brought some embarrassing moments for Clemson when it was found out that Clemson was manipulating US News & World Report to get a higher ranking. And I said nothing about sacrificing anything in academics. I'm just making the point that if he could get away with it, he would do like they have done at Vandy and get rid of the athletic department.

if he helped get ND as full time football member, then he would deserve some credit. But the half foot in half foot out of ND football, isn't commendable.

if you want to criticize him for all the "one Clemson" politically correct nonsense, then criticize him for that. He's an alum and a big football fan, and it's tiring to hear all these ignorant people claiming that he isn't becaue he doesn't do everything they want.

It's just how Clemson chooses to fulfill a particular requirement. Nothing states they must do it, just Clemson and others have chosen that's what it will do. It's a provost push.

without sacrificing in either category. Clemson has already done this for years. Ohio State, Texas, and Michigan has too, just to throw some highly successful academic and athletics schools. Don't fall for the President Barker brain wash. Clemson wouldn't be the school it is today without the attention that has been attracted by it's large and loyal fan base as a result of the athletic teams.

As a current student myself I ask these questions...
Nov 20, 2012, 12:11 AM
[ in reply to As a current student and a a truly die-hard Football fan, ] |
|
1)Is it impossible for Clemson to be Clemson academically no matter where they are? 2)Why does it matter what schools one is affiliated with? 3)How would a change in conference suddenly downgrade Clemson's academics? 4)Is it not okay to consider the two (athletics and academics) as separate entities when regarding conference affiliation? By the way, I do NOT favor one over the other in regards to staying or leaving. Just a simple case of an inquiring mind wanting to know.
