Why call out certain individuals?

1

Why do some of you feel compelled to call out certain individuals and shame individuals on this board? It's one thing to have opinions on topics of conversations, or even call out groups like sunshine pumpers , realists, orange colored glasses, or cultist , it pertains to alot of different opinions from different people.
But I believe that most of the individual call outs in these type of posts are to get thumbs up from others, or its a egotistical response expecting to gain favorable remarks from others which hold their same opinions. There is no critical thinking skills, just people trying to give a popular response for none other than a TU...
It goes back to my famous saying, a bunch of rah rah boys... not men , but boys! Grow up or grow a pair, quit hiding behind keyboards...Message boards are debates on topics or groups of people's opinions , not the bases of shaming certain individuals for some kind of TU percentage gains!!

I feel you 1000%. Personal attacks are not cool. Just flag them. It’s what usually causes someone to get the ban hammer for a few days, weeks, or months. I believe differing opinions are what makes discourse so entertaining. The one thing most of us align on is our love of Clemson University. Many people just aren’t happy unless they’re bashing someone else. I always keep it civil.

Lemmings are great, you can survive the Arctic by eating them whole. One of the best movies ever, "Never Cry Wolf". A movie my father made wouldn't let me watch until I read the book as a kid. The book was better and it was wise.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of course lemmings can't fly with eagles

or any other winged-species for that matter, given they have no wings.

And lemmings don't flock, they migrate. "A migration of lemmings."

Come prepared next time.

Some people do carry it to far. Some even provoke. Disagreeing with someone

9

is fine. Some will be offended by the disagreement and then there are those that don't know how to disagree. They immediately become defensive and personally attack that person.

However, some people on here deserve to be called out.

Sometimes “stupid” just needs to be called out. Post what you want to but don’t expect everyone to love it.

Few on here show up for certain threads and regurgitate the same BS. I am still learning and trying to just TD the post and move along. Most are not going to change my mind, and I’m not expecting to change anyone else’s mind. I will say the cult BS is utter stupidity. Not sure if many even knows what it means. I can tell you that supporting someone that maybe you don’t like does not mean that supporter is any part of a cult.

You have to remember the definition of fan. It’s short for fanatic. Fanatic-an unreasonable love or support for a person or team. We’re all stark raving mad! 🤣 we are fans!!!

What other love would make me wear frog togs and watch football for four hours in the pouring rain and freezing cold? Clemson Football. I could go on with the insanity!

Not necessarily calling out the person....maybe just the post...so many on this have never played higher level sports and most have never coached! Don't take it so personal...bad opinions are like uneducated posters!

Not really bro, just stating a fact about people starting new threads shaming individuals.. you can debate ppl all you want in a topic thread, but posting ppl up as a new thread is what I'm talking about. Totally uncalled for...

what or who they can talk about. I couldn't care less who gives me a "TU" or a "TD". The topic on this forum is Clemson Football, and the people involved in that topic include coaches (and now players) who are paid big bucks. This isn't a Boy Scout Pinewood Derby; those people have put themselves in a BIG spotlight and are going to get a lot of public criticism in the press and in forums like this when they don't meet expectations.

If you disagree with someone's take on a player or a coach, then refute it. Add substantive discourse to express your view. But your criticism of posters who aren't as gentle as you would prefer in their analysis is boring and irrelevant. If you don't like it don't read it.

2

Jan 18, 2025, 2:19 PM [ in reply to It's not your place to tell anyone... ]

He divided the yes from the no and plainly took a side to defend the no. Is that not a troll post?

He called one side the 'sunshine pumpers,' which is an insult to those whose outlook for Clemson football is gentle and fashioned himself into the 'realist,' category which puts the 'sunshine pumpers,' into a category labeled with the stigma of delusion.

Basically, he called out everyone who disagrees with him and ignored that those who don't agree with him are delusional, unable to see reality and willingly eluded by what he believes to be fact.

Feigning intellect, he sees himself as an unbiased authority on coaching hires, player recruitment when, in fact, many of us who try to look on the bright side rather that dump on our program, coaches and players. Thereby we fail to see the reality of our desperate situation.

Give him on bit of contention and he's butthurt that his opinion is deemed unworthy by another.

I'm assuming you have a problem with comprehensive skills or maybe reading skills. I said people starting new threads and calling ppl out as a new topic, is not a debate about the topics that might have started the day before. Disagree or debate all you want. But why come back the next day and start a whole new topic titled : Hey so and so is a idiot because he is a pumper or whatever...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm fine being called out.

Some folks take a more acerbic approach, sure. Slough 'em off. They're of little value or use.

It depends. If we are talking about calling out coaches or players.. well they both get paid pretty well to coach and play a game. So players want the big bucks so welcome to public accountability. Coaches get millions, so there's that.

Re: Why call out certain individuals?

Here’s a response based on the dynamics of forums and online chatrooms:

Forums and online communities often bring together people with diverse personalities and communication styles. Here are a few reasons why some individuals might feel compelled to call out or shame others:
1. Perceived Anonymity: The anonymity of online platforms can make people feel more emboldened to express opinions or criticisms they might not voice in person. This can sometimes lead to behavior that appears more confrontational.
2. Social Dynamics: Publicly calling someone out can serve as a way to assert dominance or gain social validation within the group. It’s a way of saying, “I stand for something,” but it can come across as shaming if done harshly.
3. Emotional Responses: People may react strongly to opinions or behaviors they find offensive or against the community norms. Their responses might be less about the individual and more about their own emotional investment in the topic.
4. Miscommunication: Text lacks tone and body language, so what one person sees as constructive criticism, another might interpret as shaming. This often escalates when people misread each other’s intentions.
5. Groupthink and Mob Mentality: Sometimes, when one person calls someone out, others join in to feel part of the “in-group.” This can spiral into shaming, even if that wasn’t the original intention.

Ultimately, healthy online discussions thrive on respect and curiosity, even in disagreements. Encouraging open dialogue without resorting to personal attacks can foster a better community environment.

What do you think? Would you like to add a personal touch or tweak the tone?

Jan 18, 2025, 3:07 PM

Like I said , its people starting new threads and others calling out ppl in a new topic, even if there was a debate about some other topic that might have started the day before.
I believe you can disagree or debate all you want. But why come back the next day and start a whole new topic calling someone out, that's what I'm saying...
The debates in certain topics with each person having a disagreement will happen, but no need to be calling out a person the next day or the next week, and I see that alot on here...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Number 5 happens here all the time aimed at discouraging honest discourse.
