XT just doesn't have the weight to be a force at DE

He's good on Pass rush, but he can't hold up in Run blocking.
His best chance is going to be a hybrid linebacker/DE at the next level.

He’s much improved & he is being gap sound, he’s come a long long way. He will break out as a superstar as the Championship season continues!

It takes a year or two for our coaches to destroy those sound fundamentals that their superior high school coaches taught them.

Let's look back at some of our recent recruiting classes. I'll start with the 2019 class.
We did not have any 5-star recruits in our 2019 class per 247Sports, but we did have some highly touted 4-star players: Andrew Booth, Joe Ngata, Frank Ladson, Will Putnam, Joseph Charleston, Kane Patterson, Byron Constantin, Tyler Davis, and Logan Cash.
Of all of these nationally ranked recruits, only Booth has had a notable college career. He was a second-team All-ACC in 2020, and first-team All-ACC in 2021.
None of the others showed much improvement, if any. Many of them ended up transferring.
Moving on to 2020, that class had multiple 5-stars: DJ Uiagalelei, Bryan Bresee, Trenton Simpson, Myles Murphy, Demarckus Bowman
DJ failed to improve much if any while at Clemson. In fact, his best performances here were when he was a freshman and filled in for Trevor. Despite being a 5-star player, DJ was never All-American or All-ACC.
Bresee had a decent career, and started a lot of games for us, but seemed to regress. After being ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year and first-team All-ACC as a freshman, he was only second team All-ACC as a sophomore and third team All-ACC as a junior. He was a first round draft pick based on his high school reputation more than his college performance.
Simpson only started a handful of games as a freshman. He moved up the depth chart to be a regular starter later in his Clemson career, but never became the superstar his recruiting profile would suggest. He was a third team All-ACC player in 2022.
Murphy had some flashes of great play as a freshman, and did improve some during his time at Clemson. He was second-team All-ACC in 2021, and first team in 2022. However, he was never a consistent performer, something that is also plaguing him as a rookie in the NFL.
Demarckus Bowman didn't do much of anything at Clemson, and transferred to Florida in the middle of his freshman season.
The 2020 class had some highly touted four star recruits as well, including Demonte Capeheart, Trae Williams, EJ Williams, Walker Parks, Fred Davis, Paul Tchio, RJ Mickens, Sergio Allen, and Malcolm Greene. None of these nationally ranked 4-star players made any notable strides in development at Clemson, and many transferred.
Our 2021 class featured two 5-star recruits, Tristan Leigh and Barrett Carter. This is their third year in the program. Neither has become the superstar that their recruiting profile suggests, but we will see if they begin to develop more.
The 2021 class does have some 4-star players who have made good contributions, including Will Shipley, Nate Wiggins, Jake Briningstool, Phil Mafah, and Beaux Collins. It is debatable whether these guys have improved at Clemson, but at least they are playing and making contributions. Time will tell how they turn out.

Barrett Carter and Jeremiah Trotter Jr were ranked the top 2 LB in the country going into this season, but I agree on the rest of them.

I'd be interested to see how BownL has recruited, developed and players drafted vs Dabo in the last 13 years. Especially considering funds directed to BB that were earned by football revenue. Any stats available on that?

Missed a key tackle on Riley, but otherwise he’s all over the field. No one hustles or wants it any more than that kid.
Watch the player not the stat board.

A lot of truth here.
I remember XT's early career (Freshman or Soph season I think) Dabo stated that "some of our players need to learn that not every play is going to be an ESPN highlight" (something close to that).
Most felt this was directed at XT wanting to make a big play, every play. He had to learn that staying home and trusting those around you is your job.

I never expected him to be an elite run stopper but I truly thought he would be an elite pass rusher this year. Unfortunately haven’t seen in against some of the easiest completion so it would surprise me if he was able to turn it on later.
Parker has looked like a dominant DE as a true freshman.

He had a very high grade in the last game played and was his best game of this year. The rust is falling off.

It's been 6 years, and I think his track record has been fairly consistent up 'till now.
He's not a college super-star by any means, but it's not like there's been a drastic drop-off in his play. It's not like Clemson has been churning out elite DE's lately either.
He seems to be "ok".

To be honest, with his experience and finally being healthy I was hoping for more of a Vic Beasley type of final season. It’s great getting pressure on the QB, but even more devastating to an offense to get the sack.

I think a lot of people were "hoping" for the same thing.
But, I've never seen a 5th year player all the sudden break the mold and turn into an All-American.
His HS recruiting transcript was impressive, but that was then.

realistic. Best case for XT is being a good passing down specialist. He's absolutely not an every down DE and never will be.

Maybe he isn't the good? There is still some time left in the season. He could finish strong. There is a long way to go.

Our player development sucks. We are only 6th in active NFL players. I mean that’s just awful results. How can we let 5 other teams put more guys in the league.
Stick to basketball.

I think his injuries, especially the foot, have taken their toll. I’m still pulling for him but he just doesn’t seem to have the speed and pop he once had.
