Interesting take because the downslide didn't start until he was gone for a month helping with his elderly mother.

I have been preaching all season that scheduling is a problem. We played Fla. St. in Tallahassee and ended that series late Sunday afternoon. The team arrived back in Clemson late Sunday night. Then we turned around and had to play Coastal on Tuesday in Conway. We also played multiple mid week games. I think our players were exhausted, especially the pitchers.

When you look at the losses, most were to quality teams. One more good (healthy) pitcher and hitter would have made a difference. IMO 45 wins was a great season. Maby even overachieved. We are close. I have every confidence in Bakich

It’s my understanding baseball isn’t getting the NIL needed. If that’s the case we will be lucky to keep Bakich. Just look at UVA’s coach leaving for Mississippi State of all places.
To put things in perspective a couple years ago some Clemson money men that love basketball ponied up for Brad. Look at his results the last two years.
Hate it but that’s where we are right now.

no consistent, reliable pitching (knack faded down the stretch) and need to learn how to hit good pitching. From my perspective it was as simple as that. Fire from a coach also breeds fire from the players - perhaps Backich could be a little more demonstrative during a game?

Run rule losses almost once every weekend, one dependable starting pitcher, lack of power hitting, inability of 3-4 hitters to make contact. Other stuff covered it up from time to time but that did not happen in the regional.

I’ve wondered if front loading the schedule with too many mid week games could have worn the team down by the end of the season. Ultimately, I think it came down to pitching depth. They really didn’t lose to any scrubs. We played a tough schedule and beat some really good teams. I think they just ran out of gas.

Poor pitching. All the hitting in the world couldn’t match the hemorrhaging going on with our lack of arms. Watching these teams in the super’s just reminds me of how bad the pitching was.
Only team I can currently pull for is Coastal. That small in state school is very impressive. Not sure of their recruiting vs Clemson and SC but they sure to seem to have better players than both of these schools. Is it coaching? Just surprises me. Look at how far apart Coastal is to Clemson and SC in basketball and football but baseball has a national championship and would not surprise me if they do not seriously make a run in this years CWS.
