We are seeing a lot more red (paper) wasps than usual around here this year. We used to have yellow jackets really bad but haven’t seen any of them yet.

You usually don't until you feel them.

We had yellow jackets building nests in holes in the ground in our yard every year until last year. I’d see them and spray the nests. My wife didn’t see them and she’d get stung. Last year I put out some traps in the spring and we didn’t have any nests in the yard. So far this year I haven’t even seen any.
