Trivia - Checkmate

Happy birthday to Bill Murray, Philthy Phil Taylor, and our mystery author.
This writer has written over 60 novels, about 40 of which have become movies. He didn’t hit the big time till his 4th work was filmed, and he and he used his first $1200 check to buy a Ford Pinto.
His heyday was the 80’s and he was so whacked out on drugs he says he doesn’t even remember writing one of his more famous novels, about a dog. Reviews of his works are all over the place, from:
“another low in the shocking process of dumbing down our culture...immensely inadequate on a sentence-by-sentence, paragraph-by-paragraph, book-by-book basis”, to
“Let me assure you that his work most definitely is literature, because it was written to be published and is read by millions with admiration.”
His own measure of success is “if you write something that someone buys, and it pays the electric bill, you are both talented and successful. He was also in a very bad auto accident about 20 years ago that almost killed him.

his quote. To a critic: "Show me what you got." Like me criticizing Dabo. No trophy cases in my house.

Aside from the Transformers and GI Joe movies, I've never been so disappointed in a movie adaptation from another medium.
Well, that's probably not true, but The Dark Tower movie was teh suk.

Slight correction here...

He actually hit the big time with Carrie when it was published, landing a $400,000 advance when it sold to a publisher. But he started at the age of 14 and was rejected on everything until he finally wrote Carrie in his 30s.
Also strongly recommend one of his more recent, 11/22/63, for anyone who hasn't read it. Great time-travel historical fiction.
