To all the “I come on here/watch sports to get away” crowd

Sports are uniquely positioned to drive societal change. Look no further than Jackie Robinson, Roberto Clemente, etc.
Given the times we are living in, I would be disappointed if my university and my TigerNet friends were on here NOT talking about what if going on.
STOP bashing our former and current student athletes for exercising their freedom to speak. Bash me all you want.
200 years ago, NO ONE, could imagine a world were a young child growing up in South Carolina could wear an orange jersey with a number 4 (Watson) or number 6 (Hopkins) on it without fear of repercussion.
I’m more proud of what Watson and Hopkins did the last couple of weeks off the field than anything they accomplished on it.
Progress is slow, it is hard, but it is worth fighting for.
Stop with this “I’m done, I’m giving up TNet, giving up my tickets” crap.
I’m calling the bluff.
I know why I’m ALL IN - do you? ALL of us have some soul searching to do.

You can have the moral high ground if you just

#### and let us enjoy some sports. We are all awful and you are righteous. Now can we please just have our sports back without being lectured to? It's bad enough you can't watch any show on ESPN without being berated with politics, but before all this it started seeping into broadcasts of games. Come fall I'll most likely just watch our games on mute so I don't have to hear about how "late to the party" Dabo was and how awful our town is because some false flag coots and dawgs drove through with confederate flags on their trucks.
If you want to be ALL IN so that coaches get fired for wearing tshirts you don't like, go right ahead. I'm ALL IN for our young people, proudly representing our alma mater by winning with class. You can keep the politics.

They can say all they want about politics

They have social media, news channels, rallies, all that stuff. I’m all for it. I’d never tell them what to say or think. But when I turn on a football game I just want to watch football. Why is that such a ridiculous concept to accept? Why do I HAVE to be okay with politics thrown at me during every single show on ESPN? I think weed should be legal. But I’d never tell Food Network or ESPN or Game Show Network that they had to dedicate everything they do to voicing my political view. Because that’s what fascists do. Want to know why ESPN is struggling? Because it’s CNN with a little bit of sports mixed in.

Why would Food Network or ESPN care if you want to learn about weed? You're a nobody. Nuk and Deshaun are actually important people

I don’t care who’s name is on a building. I believe black lives matter. If people want to rename a building, go for it. But when I turn on ESPN I’d like to hear about sports, not about how Dabo shouldn’t let people drive with flags on their cars or about whether it’s okay to kneel during a song. When I watch a football game I just want to watch football. I don’t care which players are outraged by the flavor of the week topic. Keep that stuff on CNN and have sports be on sports channels. Hockey is pretty much the last sport I have now where I can just watch athletes compete without all the other stuff. Please, at least let us keep hockey. Football is basically gone unless it’s on mute and it’s an actual game not a show that used to be analysis that’s now just politics. My point is why do you want to ruin something pure and wonderful by ramming your opinions down people’s throats? Just let us watch sports. If I wanted to know about politics I’d watch the news.

Yes, because the left

will demonize you if you don't conform to every detail of every stance they take. I'm not a Republican, have never voted for a Republican president, and I think it's despicable how the left will cancel you if you don't go all the way with every single view they have, and want to blast it in your face during sports and entertainment. It's turning people off and after voting for Obama, I can now say I will never vote for a Democrat ever again because of how they treat their fellow citizens.
Pro-choice but don't believe a pastor's tax dollars should fund a 13 year old getting a late term abortion without parent consent? Guess what, you hate women.
For school choice so kids of single mom's have the same opportunities rich kids have? You hate teachers.
For gay marriage but don't think biological men should compete with women in contact sports? You are a homophobe.
For a pathway to citizenship but only after securing the border? You are a racist.
Believe black lives matter, but don't think it's right to burn down privately owned businesses as a protest? You are a bigot.
We are all sick of it. Just let us watch sports and eat nachos and wings from down here and you can watch CNN up on your moral high ground while sniffing your own farts.

This is why I don't get sucked into the trap of a two party system. Everything becomes a p!$$!ng match and b/c of just a few loud people on the extreme side of either party, and you end up mocking someone you don't even know.
I actually like the way my farts smell, thank you very much, but hate CNN as much as I hate Fox news. As neither deliver great news, but more just opinions. About all media is controlled by media moguls who are interested in the message and slant, and not the actual truth to the content. Ratings = $$$. It's all they're worried about.
Left this, Right that. Blue vs Red.... It's such an adversarial system that leaves people pointing fingers at some mass group of people, painting a broad brush. Regardless of what side says what, I'm not going to be influenced by any one party b/c they are equally corrupt. Plus, neither side represents my ideals either way. I laugh at both sides as the two party system equally to blame for a system built in the 80's with regards to banking, trading and taxing that's defrauding the middle and lower class. I don't blame 80 percent of the masses, it's the extreme 20% b/n the both sides that are loud and send the messages that try to divide the rest of us (intentionally or not).
They don't speak for people like me. And, I'm betting, based on your choices below, don't speak for you either.
See, that's the problem. There isn't a healthy middle right now that people want to land on, work together. The loudest people have to be "right", or has to "win".
We line up very similarly as I'm Pro-choice, Pro Gay marriage, Anti Border, Pro Gun but Anti Assault Weapon & Bump Stocks. Pro National database for criminals, longer wait time on guns, etc. Pro Police, but much tougher vetting, more training, continued training, and pay them more.
Very republican view towards small business and taxing. This is easy one for me and it's about as extreme as I get when it comes to being labeled Conservative.
Pro Military, but anti war. Would love to see budget cuts here and reinvest in paying down our deficit over the course of 8 years. I would also like see money also spent at the local level for Police training. At some point, people in Washington need to lean to balance a dmn budget sheet...
Space Force? Give me a break invest more into local Parks.
I could go on and on, but I think you probably get the jist of what I'm saying. I wouldn't waive a hand and say "all democrats are this", or republicans are that".

if all they talked about was things other than the game.
However, the amount of time I've seen given, during games, is so minute it's not even worth the mention on this post. With that said, I honest to god can't remember, off the top of my head, a conversation that was had during our football games that revolved around politics. I'm sure it's come up, but honestly, but not to the point that it's worth having people complain about it.
Now, news articles and talk shows that try to inflate their ratings, that's the places I avoid. It's why I can't stand Skip and Shannon or just about anything other opinion shows out there.

Since I'm probably no one's "TNET friend" I'll speak up. I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make. You seem on one hand to promote free speech while on the other shutting it down. I visit here here frequently and I don't see posts bashing Clemson players. Most of the posts support equality but think it's possible without turning the country on its head or burning it to the ground. Isn't it possible to have both views? Isn't that the free speech you're looking for? What's your point about wearing Clemson jersey? Of course no one could imagine wearing a Clemson jersey 200 years ago.

We complain that there is little or no sports news just now to talk about. Each one of us has the opportunity to create a sports related thread that could generate some interesting comments. There are a number of posters on this board I deem capable of creating an interesting thread.
Reading Kornblut's column in the Seneca Journal this morning, I learned our friends in Columbia are raking in the recruits. If this trend continues, there will not be any 3*** prospects left for the other schools. And in basketball, they beat out Winthrop and Charlotte for an in-state prospect.

You seem to equate free speech with freedom from criticism.

It doesn’t work that way.
Athletes can share their opinions on any topic they choose, but I’m not required to like it or agree with it.
I don’t want political opinions from sports figures, just as I don’t want sports opinions from politicians. Stay in your lane.
I suggest you stop viewing anyone who disagrees as someone who is racist/against progress. The Black Lives Matter movement isn’t all about progress.

The starter of this article needs to see that the agenda of this is not just what "offends" them, it is about their political agenda being pushed to the point of declaring all other thoughts as anathema. It is either their way or being declared beyond the pale.

It’s not enough for them to take the moral high ground. They have to make sure you agree with them on every show on every network without escape. At what point can we just make a trade? You can burn every city to the ground and rip down every monument, just let us have sports back and let comedians make jokes you don’t like. We will work 60 hour weeks so you can distribute our liberty as you see fit, just let us keep a little of our money and let us watch a few things we want to on tv. Deal?
