Those with knowledge of the new ACC contract.

Tarheel at work is telling me the ACC contract stays intact if FSU/CU leaves. Says they hope we do because the payout per team would increase.
According to him the ACC has already got an agreement from ESPN to not reduce the contract if schools leave.

Short term, probably. Long term, no chance

No way that ESPN is going to pay that kind of money to a conference with that make up and no championship game.
The Big 12 was able to leverage Fox to keep their money when the conference downsized. The ACC doesn't have that leverage since we are exclusive to ABC/ESPN.

when that 5th year comes around, the contract numbers will plummet if we leave. Not to mention, their bowl revenue will be diminished

He puts more stock into "Inside Carolina" (their scout site message board), than Billy Graham puts into the Bible.

Of membership clause that work both ways. Sometime it takes 2the teams instead of 1regular to trigger. We're going no where alone if we go.

I see no scenario where UNC is hurt in all this.

Even if Clemson and FSU left, UNC would be content in a 12 team ACC - pulling UConn and Rutgers, bolstering the basketball reputation while having "servicable" football.
If our leaving resulted in a disintegration of the ACC, UNC would be a big-time target for both the Big 10 and the SEC.
I think those who are cheering for expansion to put the screws on UNC are going to be disappointed.

No one on this board has knowledge of the specifics of the ACC contract. Doubtful any UNC board has knowledge either. TDP said in his recent interview with Hood that the contracts are private and not subject to FOI requests. Therefore, the contract may or may not have an out clause for ESPN.
One would assume there is an out clause, but I posted a link recently that where it was reported the Big 12 contract with ESPN which began in 2008 is still in place in spite of that conference going down to 8 teams. We don't know the specifics of that contract but the report stated it did not change.
