This would be the counter-intelligence investigation that swept his campaign associates into it. There's not even a criminal investigation involving anybody on the Trump campaign, or Trump himself.
It appears that Trump thinks investigating the connection between certain people associated with his campaign (including Flynn) with regards to Russian involvement in the election is a waste of time because there were no criminal allegations against his people, and because it was providing the press with fodder to criticize him. So he wanted the investigation ended because he felt it was taking away time and energy from the things he wanted to focus on. Anyway, I think that's the most charitable interpretation of what he's doing, and even that interpretation makes him seem pretty stupid.

shrewd, but definitely not smart, at least by normal definitions.
Problem is his ego isn't letting him surround himself with excellent people, much less defer to them---reminds me of some recent bosses I've had, in fact.
