Dang! Directional sand. Who knew?

Sand that can slow down one team's receivers without affecting the other one. Directional sand.
I just wonder how they got it to switch directions at the end of each quarter?

I don't know why but I never remember seeing a field with that much sand since the old days of the 60's when NFL games were in baseball stadiums. Did the sand help cause Hooker to tear his knee up, who knows. Bottom line, the home team sets up the field just like baseball fields that are over watered.

The field was likely top dressed after all of the recent rain in the area. Top dressing with sand improves the safety and playability of sports fields. It also helps with drainage and prevents the turf from turning into a muddy mess. These people are clueless morons.

That makes three excuses I've heard.

1. Fight between Hooker and the LB and the defense sided with the LB so they didn't play hard. 2. At least five defenders were paid off by bookies to throw the game. 3. SC put sand on the field. (I really don't understand this. The sand slowed the UT defenders down, but didn't slow the SC WRs down?)

Had not heard about the bookies. That’s classic SEC.

#4 Tenn couldn't 'get it up' for an opponent that was not a CFP contender. Therefore, Tenn's Floppy Top performance is to be ignored.

The Coots also tried bottles on the field too at one point. Something that Tennessee can relate to and is familiar with.

The sand was quite noticeable, but I don't see how it affected either team. Bermuda fields are routinely topdressed with sand when the grass is actively growing as a way or reducing thatch, leveling the ground, and generally keeping the turf healthy. The key words are "when it is actively growing". I do not know why they would have put that much sand on this time of year. I did not know that they had that much rain, but I guess that could have been an explanation, but the way the sand was kicking up, it sure looked dry to me.

There was quite a bit of rain in Columbia are the week before. Also if the turf had a lot of wear and tear from the season it's likely they scheduled a top dress for the two week lull between home games. They could have probably run the irrigation some before the game to keep the sand tight during the game. Regardless, it's much safer to play on a level, sandy field than to play in rutted up turf.
