I have no idea of the accuracy of the statement, but it sure sounds reasonable to me. Clearly written from the pilot's perspective.

The fact that "Pilots" is always capitalized lets me know who wrote it. "passengers" and "crews members" were reduced to lower case letters.

I noticed that as well. God should be capitalized, president when addressing The President, but pilot, I don't think so. I think the writers sees himself and his cohorts as a little above the other commoners of the world.

Yeah, I think it takes a bit more training and responsibility to be a Pilot than an attendant or a baggage handler. Absolutely no disrespect for those other crew members.

Please give me the phone number or link so I can get me my free sheet. They did get 7B in Covid relief funds (under the prior administration and approved by a democratic congress) so maybe we can get that money back and use it to make their customers whole.

Too late. SW already gave dividends to shareholders. And the rich get richer again.

Again that started under the last administration. The company where I work saw its corporate tax rate cut in half in 2017 and has used those additional retained earnings to increase share repurchase by nearly $1B each year since.

Well in my mind I would rather they lower the corp tax rate and keep the businesses in the country. There’s reasons manufacturing and other producing type companies take their business elsewhere. EPA and labor cost are another.
Kudos to the prior admin. Economy was in a hell of a lot better shape than it is now. Not sure how anyone can argue that.
Seen another article on why our current labor force is so short handed. Let you guys do your own research but I’m guessing most logical people can figure that out as well.

Another obvious pretender - had you gone to Clemson, and taken a course in economics, you would understand that stock repurchases are not necessarily a bad thing AND that your company is actually protecting your job! So you wanting a bonus rather than a job puts you in the lower 50% of intelligence. Embrace it. Cry me a river of ignorance, please…just STF U Quit whining and life will be better, I really feel sorry for you lemmings. Be Ella Strong folks, be Ella Strong!

Reading Comprehension much?

No one said stock repurchase were bad the previous poster mentioned dividends and I pointed out something that you don’t know. The corporate tax breaks under the last admin effectively became a vehicle to return wealth to share holders via share repurchases. You mentioned bonuses; who do you think benefits the most from inflated stock prices? It’s the decision makers who actually have the authority to green light the repurchases. The vast majority of executive compensation is tied to stock prices through stock grants, options, and LTI; only a very small portion of their comp is from salary. It would be foolish for them to not take advantage of an opportunity to maximize their comp. See pappy; you were sold a bill of goods. You were told that the tax breaks would bring US companies back from over seas and promote investment. That’s not how it works in the real world. I’ve done probably a hundred business cases since the new law was enacted and we’ve approve probably half of em. We don’t spend money just cause it’s there; the project has to have an IRR that exceeds a hurdle rate. The limiting factor ins’t funding it’s opportunities. We have to find something first that will benefit us enough to justify the spend before we do it. Increased cash flow has had zero impact. As far as bringing companies back to the US that is a very long term exercise it’ll probably be a decade before we know of any impact.
BTW. A. My bonus paid out 2X last year, but thanks for your concern B. Really classy of you to bring one of players’ late sister into this argument C. I have a BS in Economics from the John E Walker Econ department here at Clemson university; all you got is a wicked hangover that you’re nursing from the handle of Johnnie Walker that you pounded last night.

I actually did study Economics at Clemson, with the highlight of my academic career acing Rex Cottle's Econ 402 class. (Top two students exempted the exam with A's, the rest got what they got, and he didn't curve. Brutal course.) Dr. Cottle, who would go on to head the Business program at Wayne State before becoming President of Lamar University, was the smartest prof I ever had. He also urged me to go on a PhD track, but I went to b-school instead. So now that I've addressed your abiding concern about bona fides...
The stock repurchases are ridiculous when they are funded by the taxpayers. (I guess the dummies have forgotten their old 'trickle down' theories. And don't get me started on that, because I f'n know Arthur Laffer.)
Claiming that this somehow protects jobs makes absolutely no sense. It doesn't do anything one way or another re worker's jobs - that is all about company policy. And if the company is looking to maximize stock value, the tax cut didn't protect jobs at all.
So don't pretend to be some expert of "high intelligence" when you are just trolling with stupid wannabe knowledgeable comments

Man, you commie (or is it Commie) crybabies are something else. Yes, by all means, make the SW pilots shovel snow so you can be insulated from the reality of weather. I have an idea, get The Big Guy to force SW to hire double the pilots and planes of what they have now, just to keep Clemson bandwaggoners from ever being inconvenienced by naturally occurring disasters. Gotta GetAway fare from GSP - MIA $2499. Only 3 seats left at this fare! This entire country has lost their ever loving minds and therefore deserve what we get. Geez…STF U

Yep sad state of affairs. Bought my whole Christmas from China.
Hearing there will be shortages as well on basic antibiotics in the near future because we are getting most of that from overseas. #### shame we are buying any meds from foreign countries.

Just poor management irrespective of which side of the aisle you sit on. It’s the oldest poor planning trick in the book; you sacrifice future operations for the sake of current profits. They’ve been running the same scheduling software since the 90s and are far far behind the rest of their competitors in technology. When everything went to sheet last week they didn’t have the technology to cope and had to schedule manually; which they clearly couldn’t. It’s no different than the retailer who puts off modernizing their POS system or the restaurant company who runs their buildings into the ground. They put off investment and got burned. This failure is on decades or management decision makers. Clemson’s management department will be using this as a case study for decades in it’s classrooms.

GREAT comment. The fact that they didn't upgrade software in order to keep all their business direct (rather than through consolidators) left them immune to the understanding that their systems were sub-par, until faced with an emergency like this one.
I have no desire to pile-on Southwest. I fly them fairly frequently because Hartford is a hub. I tire a little of their hayseed approach ("well aren't we just lucky to arrived in the right city without crashing" nonsense), but management brought this upon the company.
