So, what if UM, SMU, and us all win out?

Say we get snubbed for th ACCG. We would STILL have just 1 loss to a top ranked UGA. I say we still get in the playoff.

I agree with you. I think we make the cfp as well.
Question: i've seen the dooms day scenario of Clemson being snubbed for the ACCCG several times. I have also seen S.O.S is in favor of Clemson to SMU. Assuming we do not lose another regular season game - what scenario has Clemson being beaten out by Pitt - who we would have had to have beaten? Miami - who has looked shaky at best and how is their S.O.S looking now? SMU who is ranked behind CU and has a S.O.S that is behind CU. The Georgia game has nothing to do with the ACC.

If one of the tie-breaks is who is ranked higher - are we not in "if that is the case"? Or am I missing something there?

It was posted earlier that AP ranking means nothing to the ACC. It’s just record against common opponents. If we beat Pitt, the. They’re out. SMU also plays Pitt, so they have two chances of being knocked out. If they beat us both, then I guess they’re in.

There are rules set so the team left out would not be snubbed.

It would not be a snub as there is a specific set of rules to be followed. We know the rules so it is up to our team to perform in such a way that we out perform the other teams based on the rules. If we don’t do that it is on us.

Care to elaborate on what those rules are; besides make sure you win out?

Here are the rules,, good luck!!1. Combined head-to-head win percentage
If all tied teams are common opponents, the combined head-to-head win percentage is used.
2. Win percentage versus all common opponents
If the tied teams are not all common opponents, the win percentage versus all common opponents is used.
3. Win percentage versus common opponents based on order of finish
The win percentage versus common opponents is based on the order of finish, with ties broken.
4. Combined win percentage of conference opponents
The team with the better opponents gains the advantage.
5. Team Rating Score
SportSource Analytics determines a Team Rating Score for each team at the end of the regular season. The team with the higher score advances.
6. Random draw
If all else fails, the commissioner of the league randomly chooses the advancing team.
The tiebreaker process takes place after the final regular season game before the Conference championship. The commissioner or a designated assistant administers the process, which is open to the media and athletics department representatives from the tied teams.

4. Combined win percentage of conference opponents

Will decide which 2 between us, SMU, and Miami get in if all are 8-0.

That is not in our control, either. That would suck for any team to go 8-0 and not get to play for the ACC title.

This is not true. All we can do is win games. The rest is out of our control.
The tiebreaker that matters is opponent records. We have no control over that.

If we all win out we will be in the acc championship game based on the records of acc teams we played

Not true at all.

Their records are abysmal.

The way the media harps on the ACC i'd be surprised to see 2 ACC teams get in

Oct 21, 2024, 9:44 AM

and one without a conference champ appearance. If anyone would it would be Clemson (b/c of name recognition and probable ranking) but i think espn would drive the point home that the ACC can't get two teams in. We still got some tough games left(namely louisville and SCAR).SMU still has some lose-able games left.. Miami is pretty much on easy street.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That would be a situation where the past playoff success that Clemson has had

Oct 21, 2024, 9:49 AM

would be like money in the bank with the Committee, I believe. We would get in, in that situation, unless it came down to us and a borderline SEC team, then the hype machine would probably push us out.

At some point, I have to believe the Committee will not react well to being bullied by the SEC, and to a slightly lesser extent, the BIG. That could also work in our favor.

Conferences can't have this many teams, only play 8 games and have no divisions.

Oct 21, 2024, 10:00 AM

It's obviously stupid.
