I see this and think of the last few press meetings with Bowden saying the same thing. Almost verbatim. It actually used to be a running joke and/or excuse for board critics and others to bash. Probably with right. Old example from quick search

Anyway. It's still an honest assessment. But by the same argument, B1G @ SEC are also full of "parity." You gotta win your games. Even in a conference considered lowly, and hurts us...?? If we win, we're in. Done it before with tighter restricting. Parity shouldn't matter. There's always similarities. It's semantics. Go win the game.

If you're trying to win the whole thing..... you have to maximize your own efforts.
For example...our efforts appeared to be maximized against Georgia.......in the first half. Second half our efforts were not maximized. We had all spring and summer to be ready. Stuff like that and the molasses tar pits we stood in against Louisville......is what brings all this unwanted parity.

That was where ########## became a running theme nationally. Bottomline is you have to out-coach the other team if he thinks parity is happening (which it is obviously) but then he needs to step up his coaching to beat the talent parity. Pretty much what everyone is saying minus those screaming for portal use. I don't care how Dabo builds his team but the coaching should be top tier!

The portal, then go and get the best coaches money can buy and develop the players. Issue for us as fans, we tasted the success and know the program can win at the top levels. Many moons ago, most of us would kill to have the teams for the last 4 seasons because we lived through the Tommy West years and CTB years. However it’s like DS has become complacent, that’s frustrating.

If a coach is consistently placing players in the wrong positions (both offense and defense) then yes that needs to be corrected by replacing them. And, a number of times, the offense/defense just happens to call a play that catches your offense/defense in the wrong position.
If your players can't or won't execute then that is a real problem. My observation (having never been a coach and only played in HS) is if you can consistently match up and beat your man your chances of succeeding on any given play goes up exponentially.
What I am seeing in college football are quality players are being spreadout across all teams with NIL. The bag men at Georgia and Alabama are now spread through out the country. A lot of the players know they aren't going to the NFL. So why not go to Vanderbilt, get a free education and get some payment on the side while you are in school to play a game you love.
The portal is great, but I agree with Dabo. Guys are making deals on the side trying to get more playing time and money before "announcing" they are going into the portal. Coaches have basically been doing that for years. Now players can do it.
As a coach what do you do? Do you can recruit guys and then after a year bring in portal guys for their position. Which is basically telling everyone I don't care what I told you a year ago.
College football coaching has always been high risk, high reward especially the last 30 years. If you are in that business you are going to get fired at some point. Now with NIL the player can both leave and they can get fired.
I'm just waiting for the NCAA to get fired and next evolution of College Football.

“Parity” is a term used by coach with no answers. Tommy Bowden used to say it, Brad Brownell used to say it before he figured out how to use the portal to win games. Now Dabo? Please no! Just go out and hire better coaches Dabo.

Instead of dwelling in the past and only believing we will never lose, take a minute and look at the list of conference standings on Yahoo Sports. Football is a better game when different teams from the norm are winning.

A team isn’t a machine run by a code that can just be re-programmed.
