So KB has one off night passing and we are already looking to future?

Some of you lack the ability to interpret a full sample of statistics fairly and entirely.
Is he DW? No. Is he a future NFL QB? Most likely not. But the dude is a straight up gamer and IMO has FAR exceeded my expectations as a manager of our offense.
This is Bryant's first year ever as a starter. He is still learning. That was a heck of an environment to play in last night, especially when you knew the pressure was on the offense to keep up.
Barring injury, I would place all bets on Bryant to be our returning starter next year. I'm sure TL will be a heck of a player for us in due time, but Bryant isn't going to just lay down and give it to him.
Let's not forget that Watson wasn't the full starter from day 1, either. There are nuances and technicalities to the offense that Bryant will have an advantage of over Lawrence or Johnson.
We are a potential CFP team RIGHT NOW in what was supposed to undoubtedly be a rebuilding year.
I'd say the kid has done a hell of a job and I look for him to get more consistent down the street ala Louisville and VT.
I'm not going to hold it against the kid that he kissed a couple throws in a de facto ACCCG in Raleigh in his first season on the field. He will learn from this and so will our team.

I love KB but he's been air mailing receivers all year.

He has exceeded my expectations...

but KB still has a ways to go before he will be able to win a CFP game for us, even if we can manage to win out and get back there; and a lot of that has to do with the supporting cast. No Leggett or Williams to consistently make big plays. Thankfully Hunter is still there. Last night he probably won the game for us with that 4th down conversion.
Here’s what’s telling to me: on our last possession, the coaches didn’t have enough confidence to even call a play that had a chance in #### of getting a first down. Instead we concede the possession and put our defense in a nightmare position. That tells me they didn’t have any confidence in Bryant to make the throw. Because that’s what we had to have to get the 1st down. Deshaun LIVED for moments like that. Bryant? Not so much... at least not to our coaches at crunch time yesterday.
This is the guy who was never able to beat out Nick Schuessler for the backup QB job... and now your telling me he’s comparable to Deshaun Watson? He’s not... and it’s not even close. But again, he has exceeded expectations and we’re still in the hunt. We’ll see how it goes with KB. I hope he has the ability to improve. He’ll have to.

At what point did i compare him to DW4? He doesn't, but

Who threw that 4th down to pass to Hunter? Who had crucial rushing TDs and passes all throughout the game?
The first two or three possessions were most definitely shaky, but the kid calmed down and led us down the field with tough plays and unbelievable athleticism.
I'll tell you one thing, I'm not sure of TL or even DW4 himself could have executed that third down play to Deon where he escaped multiple pass rushes and threw across his body for a first down. The game was very much in doubt at that point and we went on to take the 24-21 lead after that play.
The kid clearly can improve as a passer but some of you guys acting like we have a better option at the QB position of a gamer that will be starter-ready from Day 1 over Kelly are delusional in my opinion.
Does TL have a higher ceiling? Yes i would believe so. But I look for Kelly to continue to improve as a QB throughout this year and next, leading us to back to back playoff appearances as TL adds weight, knowledge and experience.

At what point did I say anything about TL and next year?

I’m talking about this year, and Clemson’s chance of repeating success in the CFP. Bryant is an impressive athlete, but IMO we ALREADY have a QB using a scholarship year in 2017 with a “higher ceiling.” Whoever the best QB is, I’d like to see our coaches have enough confidence in him to call a play that could have ended that game yesterday WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE ENDED.
But since you mentioned it, from what I’ve seen next season will be much like 2014, where the freshman will just be way, WAAAAAYYY too good to keep off the field. Cole Stoudt “paid his dues” too... but it didn’t take long to see who was clearly better and gave Clemson the best chance for success. If Bryant can go on from here and lead Clemson to another national championship, then he will hold onto the job. Again, he will have to improve a LOT for that to happen... or Clemson’s offense will have to morph into Alabama’s offense.

But they had enough confidence for KB to make the throw in a similar situation when running down the clock against Auburn.

So I'm making your point by pointing out a play the coaches called, and KB excuted? That makes sense. Every game has different circumstances, and the coaches see different looks. Would you say the coaches didn't trust DW4 to make the 4th and 4 throw against Auburn that would have ended the game last year because they chose a Gallman? Of course not.

“Similar situation”... your words Kobe
Nov 5, 2017, 10:19 PM
|

and yesterday our coaches subjected our tired, banged up, injury-riddled defense to a 2-minute drill on the road against an offense that had already gashed us several times, because evidently they thought that was better than calling a short pass to at least TRY and get a first down that would have ENDED THE GAME!!
Try actually thinking about it for a minute, then tell me what you think that means?

Your whole premise is laughable, the coaches called a play that we've had success on in the past on short yardage situations hell even earlier in the game the same play got us a gain of 18. Not every play is going to work in every situation, it's part of the game.
Look at 00:12:15 and 2:29:00, literally the exact same play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wp8TcoFIeE&t=9561s
Here's the play (27:00) from the Auburn game when we needed two first downs to end the game. On 3rd and 9 they trusted KB enough with the ball to let him throw it for the first down and he made the play. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMzQ-IvHs2k
Maybe you should take your own advice and actually try thinking for a instead of going out on a witch hunt.

He’s had an off season passing the ball...every game he is good for at least 2 wide open overthrows that would have been 6...He is one hell of a runner....but he’s just an awful passer...he is what he is at this juncture.

Yes, I fully agree that Bryant has done an amazing job this year. No one can ever take that away from him. After watching him in practice and at the spring game from the side lines I thought he ran too quickly, couldn't read defenses well and stared down WRs. He's proven me wrong this season by just finding other ways to win games. At the end of the day that is all we need this season... security at QB.
The reality is that he is the safe choice this season considering the strength of our defense and our Oline/run game. He simply needs to not turn the ball over, allow our play makers to be put in space and run the ball effectively in tough situations.
There is nothing this year to clearly state he is the starter next year. He hasn't had a "great night passing" all season... He's passed "enough" and has been balanced.
Maybe he will slowly pick it up at the end of this season, connect on more deep and intermediate throws, and continue to grow. More teams are beginning to stack the box on us an dare him to throw. We'll need him to progress to win the tough games to come post-season.

I agree! I hope he becomes more of a passing threat, but Saturday was definitely an off night for him as a passer. Hope he gets that fixed right away. We do not need to be one dimensional, especially with the talented WR's on this team.

KB has been throwing passes all year to 10 foot tall WRs.

But I don't think we have any. Renfrow, when he does his acrobatics to catch a lot of KB passes it doesn't look so bad on KB. Mind you, KB passes a heck lot better than I do, is a much better athlete than most of us on here but we aren't on a scholly at a major divison 1 school. Love some KB but dang, what can the coaching staff do to help him pass better...more drills, what?

Tired of hearing this was perceived as a rebuilding year
Nov 5, 2017, 9:32 PM

B.S. Vegas had Clemson favored in every game minus Louisville on the road pre-season. The rebuilding year garbage is a falsehood. Where did all the WE2DEEP T-Net posters disappear too? This Clemson team is as stacked as any Clemson team in history especially at our strengths: D-Line and Wide Receiver and at other strong position groups: O-Line and Linebacker.
Except for Bama, I will put our personnel up against any college players in the country. We are an average to weak passing team which is a tough turn of events when pre-season every Tiger fan was rightfully calling Clemson "Wide Receiver University". KB is a tough young man and a he11uva runner when he is 100% which he is still not. He has always been an inconsistent passer, and with the QB talent on the team and coming in next year, coaches are eventually going to make the logical decision to bench KB no matter how much they love his heart, his guts and his reported leadership - and rightfully so. In the end, you do not keep Deshaun Watson or Dan Marino on the bench to play Jacoby Brisset or RGIII or Brian Hoyer.
