Should Opie Beamer take the Vatech job? Well, lets help him with the decision.

Let me think about this........trade in my cesspool sewer water for pristine mountain spring water. Trade in a rabid local media which hates anything and everything for a small school newspaper who loves the Hokie athletics program. Trade the SEC where you yearly get your brains beat out and are the worst program in the conference for the ACC where you have a realistic shot at winning 9 games a year and a conference title. More than anything else, trade the city of Columbia which is a crime ridden sludge pond for the mountains of Virginia? That is no trade.....that is heaven. Sign quickly, son, and press hard, there are 3 copies on that contract.

No. USUCK will then possibly bring in a better coach.

No better coach will take that job. Just ask them. Usuck is the graveyard of good coaches where they go to forget how to coach. (See Dietzel, Spurrier, Holtz for reference) Bad coaches fit in there perfectly for a while before being fired. It is a cesspool of failure at every level.

"A cesspool of failure at every level"
Such an accurate and succinct description of the Carolina football program.

I was surprised to see the date on this post. I thought VT had used a permanent marker when they scratched Baby Boy Beamer off their list.

They don't want baby beamer. Daddy is only legendary there because of longevity. He did not discipline his players. He did not win championships. VT's trophy case is the same size as south carolina, maybe smaller because they don't have a heisman trophy. Stadium is smaller too...

I knew your statement was very very wrong, but I had to look it up just to be sure.
* Virginia Tech has 11 conference titles, including 4 in the ACC > (Coots have 1)
* Virginia Tech's all time win % is .600, with 774 wins > (Coots are .511, 647)
* Virginia Tech has 14 bowl wins > (Coots have 10)

Yes. If I was him I'd jump all over the VPI job. What does his future look

like at UofSC going forward? A brutal schedule every year... if he doesn't get the old hob-nailed boot in the teeth at the end of this season. And that's a BIG IF. He's 48 years old. What better options will he have? Time to nail down that last gig and bank a few more $million, if they even want him.

If that’s the best hire VT can make they might as well rehire the guy they just fired.

He should take the VaTech job. I know many hokie fans that desperately want him. I'm not sure he'd be interested. The last "good" coach there was his dad, a legend. The job, just by his last name, is going to come with a ton of pressure. Of course if the chickens hand him his walking papers it might the decision easier.

Beamer's buyout is $27M. He won't get fired this year.

If he’s smart, which is debatable since he took the coot coaching job, he will get out while the getting’s good before the Coaches’Graveyard swallows him!
