Random Joe Theismann post

Originally his last name was pronounced “Theesmann” but changed it prior to his senior year at notre dame to Theismann to rhyme with Heisman. He thought it would be a good Marketing tool which proved correct as he won it about 6 months later.

is true about the name pronunciation, but he actually finished second in the 1970 voting behind Jim Plunkett of Stanford, so he never won the Heisman.

The correct German pronunciation is the one that rhymes with Heisman. When two vowels are next to each other in a German name or word, the second vowel is typically "long" or emphasized.
