Question for Christians.

I would love to have serious answers only. (I know that is virtually impossible on a board of this type - with people of all religious beliefs reading and commenting, but I'll ask anyway.)
Today I heard a Christian say that Donald Trump is "God's divinely appointed leader."
I know many Christians believe that. As a Christian I ask this of any Christian who agrees with that statement this question: Was Joe Biden God's divinely appointed leader?

Corollary, "Were the people who were supporting Trump's attempt to overturn the election results of 2020 actively working aganst God?" (Note, whether or not the election was "stolen" and Trump actually won is irrelevant to this question.)
Thanks for your serious answer. The question and the answer are tied up in trying to juxtapose the sovereignty of God and the free will of man.

As already stated, God's uses the agency of mankind to work. Whether a blessing, or a curse, on a people/nation it is through the long run workings of man. Summarily, it is the heart of that "group" which determines when the blessing ends and/or the curse begins.
The agency of man - who elect their leadership. Much like Israel selected their first king.

So Don, Joe, Don, Barak...all the way back to George all got their power from God.
I'd rather swim in a septic tank than dally in politics. I have more respect for pimps and prostitutes than politicians and those who passionately support either party.
Imo, wasting time reading, talking about or even giving thought to politics is robbing God of time one should spend praising Him. I understand why atheist do it.

The only thing worse than the people believing that some leader is "God's divinely appointed" is the leader themselves believing it.
The is an extraordinarily dangerous slope to be treading. Hitler believed he was chosen. Every assassination attempt he survived, reinforced that belief.
I will continue to pray FOR any and all leaders to make sound moral decisions. I will never pray to them.

Do Trump supporters who believe he is "divinely appointed by God" also believe that he and his supporters were fighting against God in trying to overturn the election?
Note: If anybody is interested, I voted for Trump in 16 and 20 in the general election.
I'm just asking because I wonder how many Christians think about the consistency of their beliefs.

I must admit that it is easy to get in the philosophical weeds on this one. If God raises up and takes down leaders, those taking down the leader could be in rebellion to God, or they could be doing His work by taking down a leader God is replacing.

People could write books about it and still not come to a clear conclusion.
1. God is sovereign.
2. In His sovereignty God created us with free will.
3. Because God is sovereign He can intervene and limit our free will if He so chooses.
4. But, becasue He is sovereign, He can also choose to not intervene in our actions.
I think it is very dangerous to make a blanket statement like "God divinely appointed ___________ as leader of ___________ ." Fill in the blank with any name and country you choose.
I know people who state that Trump is "God's appointed leader of America" while at the same time would never state that Biden was also His appointed leader. (I know people who would say Biden was divinely selected by God, but would deny that Trump was also.)
I was just curious as to what folks on this forum thought.

At least as it goes with Trump.
Alot of people on the religious right like to compare Trump to certain persons from the bible, and say he was appointed by God. I think some of this is so they can sleep at night when confronted with what he is doing and/or is trying to do. They have made a deal with a proverbial devil, who is full of hate and moves in directions opposite of what Jesus would teach. So they have to come up with a way to be able to live with themselves.
Trump is not a King. He is not The Boss. He's just the guy that the Electoral College - using our system of states voting to select said electors - selected to be the Chief Executive of the Executive Branch of a government with 3 co-equal branches. Appointed by God? Pfft.
As for Biden being appointed by God? Again....Pfft.

Personally I take issue with anyone cherry picking chapter and verse to validate something they already believe. Using the Bible to make their case, so to speak. I could say "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's." How does that help me?
I am typing and thinking at the same time, so the weeds are inevitable. I'm just thinking that the Bible is our moral compass. Not some reference book to justify our behavior.
As for our leaders, this is what I meant when I said it was a dangerous slope. Would we actually believe that if someone in this day and time were truly "anointed by God" that it would come in the form of an American political hack? Doubtful.
