Question about Handicap Seating at Football game

2

We are new season ticket ticket holders. Our daughter will be a freshman Rally Cat. If I wanted to bring my father to a game, does anyone understand the process of "exchanging a ticket" for a handicap seat? When I asked the IPTAY rep prior to purchasing, she said that on game day you go in and find a security guard and ask them to exchange the ticket for a handicap seat. Is that right? I don't mind buying an extra ticket for a game that is pre-designated as a handicap ticket if that is easier, but I haven't seen any "handicap" seats available for sale. He will probably only be able to come once and I don't know that he can make it through an entire game, but he wants to come see his granddaughter dance at a game at least once.

I would also need my mom or me to be nearby to assist him - i.e. let us know if he needs to get to restroom, or if needs to leave. How would that work?

Any information or assistance appreciated. I'm thinking the November 2nd game might be a good one for him to try to attend. I know he would love Military Appreciation on November 23rd, but I feel like that one may have more handicap attendees with the number of veterans that usually attend.

IMO they're not all that good unless you like watching a game from the corner of the endzone...

That’s the only option for many people. Yes, let security know at the gate and steps will be taken to set you on the path. It is also dependent upon how many have made the exchange whether they can do it on the spot for you.

They accommodate handicapped persons well. Many need attendees.

I would call the ticket office on Wednesday before the game you plan to attend and ask them to walk you through what will happen on game day, what you need to do, what they will do, etc.

Also, your daughter should be able to explain the situation to her Rally Cat coaches and they can help with the process as well.

Congrats to your daughter, I have a former student who won the talent portion of miss teen SC her senior year in high school with dance and didn’t make the rally Cat squad until her junior year at Clemson. That is quite an achievement.

A couple of years ago I bought aftermarket tickets to the NC State game. I had us second row down about the goal line on the north side ( next to the band ). My whole purpose was to finally get an extended family member to a game in Death Valley for the first time. “Aunt Jane” has been kind of special for a long time. She’s lived alone in Iowa forever but she adopted my Tigers right after I married her niece 35 years ago. She never misses a game on TV but she had never experienced Death Valley in person. I was determined to get her there while she could still go. I brought my two daughters along ( they’ve been to many games in DV ) in case Aunt Jane needed help getting to the restroom or otherwise.

As you might recall, that was a great game and the pre-game energy was through the roof. Aunt Jane got the up close and personal experience of the Tigers running down the hill and being seated next to the band made everything more intense.

But shortly before halftime I realized I needed to get her up that long aisle before the rush. It took us quite a while and the entire way Tiger fans seated along the aisle were reaching out to take her arms and help her up step by step. She was beside herself at the way everyone made sure she could make it another step.

We never descended those steps again. At the top, an usher brought us a chair so she could rest, then they moved the two of us to the handicap area just above the band.

When Aunt Jane returned home to Iowa I know she never ceased telling everyone in her town how wonderful an experience she had and how incredibly nice all those good people in Clemson were. She’ll probably never have another opportunity to go to a game in Death Valley but I know a lasting memory was made for her that night.
