You gotta recruit studs offense and pitching. Until that changes then this is the outcome year in and year out. Yea we want Clemson guys and good people in community but those are feel good stories typically and only help so much. Bottom line you gotta win! And that means having some dudes! Idc how much of a pos they are off the field.

Facts. I never want to be Tennessee bad but I mean, does anybody talk about them being ######## anymore? no they won a national championship. They are a national championship program and kids all over the country want to go play for Tony Vitello

I think Bakich has done a very very good job. I agree that the one area that is lacking is recruiting. And there are tons of studs out there that have solid character. Does anyone have inside knowledge as to where we stand with NIL in baseball? I also imagine the SEC is really starting to get ahead with facilities and high paid coaching staffs.
I wonder what needs to be done to elevate recruiting? I know it would help a little if we would stop losing these home regionals.

I think the SEC getting ahead is a huge factor. The SEC has money out the wazoo and can actually offer some decent NIL money to some of these dudes to go along with elite coaching, elite facilities, etc. Clemson isn’t some lame duck but can we compete with Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee, etc. long term?

I follow college baseball as much as anyone but I am not at all plugged into the inner workings of this game…. Everyone talks about the “difficulties” of recruiting and winning at Clemson but what are they exactly? That’s what I don’t understand. Especially if we go to 34 scholarships, there won’t be anymore of the “difficulties” we talked about in the 2010s with out of state tuition and stuff.
I guess I just don’t get it. Tony Vitello turned Tennessee into a national title contender in like 3 years and Tennessee was pretty irrelevant in baseball for about 15 years before that. That’s an exception, not the rule, but dang I hate watching these other schools turn things around so quick and we just can’t get it done in the postseason.
With our fan support, facilities, traditions, etc. we shouldn’t be finishing as low as we do in the recruiting rankings. Every year we have major holes in the pitching staff or the lineup and we can never seem to put it all together.

Yeah I think we all knew that for sure. It’s a tough sell when baseball isn’t even really a revenue generating sport. With the scholarships and NIL money paid out they’re probably losing money hand over fist but they have so much cash from football deals that it doesn’t even matter.

Understand but also it’s not a revenue sport and most places are but still we are behind and it’s sad

It would be nice to have an ounce of transparency with NIL to understand the gap in funding there.

I’ve head Bakich and folks at D1 say the 34 scholarship and revenue share will help certain teams. Will it help Clemson? Can this add to recruiting efforts? Might need 2 years to fully understand and reap the benefits if it does.

It’ll help us for sure. A lot of smaller schools won’t have money to pay 34 full scholarships for baseball. That rule will change will hurt mid majors. The better question is probably “how much does it also help everyone else?”

There were a few programs like Vandy and UVA that figured a way around the scholarship limitations by using the huge endowments their schools had to give scholarships to their entire teams. So I don't think we were at an extreme disadvantage to the majority of college baseball. The new rules should elinate that advantage for the above schools so that helps. But not sure where we are in the NIL game with baseball.
I personally hate what NILhas brought to the game, but I feel like Clemson isn't doing nearly a good enough job trying to raise funds from our fanbase while new laws are being passed that will hopefully reign everything in. I know I know. They always tell us Clemson is a top 15 program with NIL in someway. I don't think it is with funds raised though. I think it has more to do with some infractture we put in. Just wish we would bite the bullet and ask our fans to pitch in more for the time being.

I may be way off, but just from my vibe with the athletic department it feels like Clemson is doing everything they possibly can to just stay reasonably competitive with football NIL and then throwing a couple million at basketball to keep them somewhat happy. Everyone else—baseball included—gets scraps.

because the higher ups (and fans) at Clemson think they are better than everyone else, and would never dare stoop so low as to pay for an elite team. Say what you will about Tennessee, but they are pouring money into their athletics and it is showing

To play devil’s advocate: Is pouring a bunch of NIL money into college baseball smart? Does it really make the university much money? I mean if I were AD I’d do it… Clemson baseball and Clemson football are 1A and 1B for me depending on the season. But for probably 95% of Clemson fans, football is far and away their top priority. Also, I’d be fired within weeks if I were the AD lol.
