I'm now at 32 days and counting. We had a machinist quit this past Wednesday, so I'm actually having to do a little work to take up the slack. It helps speed things along. Come on 2/22/24!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh don't worry about that. February 22nd is it for me. Already got SS lined up to start on my my 62nd birthday. I've told the guy I sold the company to that I won't be back. He's had 1.5 years to learn everything from me. Whatever he didn't learn he'll figure out. I left good employees for him to help rely on (minus one machinist).

I’m planning to also take my SS at 62. If I wait until 65 it does make about an $800 per month increase based on the SS estimator. It would take 8 years (73 years old) before waiting pays off. But I have a pension and 401k too so I’m not waiting. At some point they will have to reduce benefit’s considerably. I suspect those already on SS will be locked in? Reducing benefits already claimed will be a major political hot potato. And if I don’t need the SS I take I can invest it and that with compounding interest probably pushes the tipping point out 5+ more years, closer to 80 years old. At 80 I figure I’ll be dead or too old to enjoy things that require spending money.

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw he was retiring at 62, even tho I think that retirement age is now 66, and if he starts collecting his SSI at 62, his benefits will be slashed harshly. But he can pay it out as if he worked to 66, or just don't collect a dime from his SSI until he turns 66.
They don't voluntarily tell you that, that's usually something you learn afterwards when you see that SSI check and you say to yourself, I thought I was supposed to be getting more than this. Then you called them, and that's when they will tell you that don't get full benefits unless you retire at 66....

I gave the company 4 months notice I was retiring. I stayed 2-1/2 months and then burned a month and a half of vacation days I had not been able to previously use. They had not named a replacement before I left or before I came back for the 1 day to finish the sign out process. I was told they finally had a replacement in place after another month.
The company was always doing that to save money. No skin off my teeth, I was gone.
One other thing. Since I couldn't do a turnover with a replacent, I started getting phone calls about this and that. When the frequency of the calls increased, that stopped when I asked for a contract to pay me $100 per hour for info.

I worked my last 3 years at Clemson and after being in industry for 36 years, I considered that semi-retirement. I gave my last employer before Clemson an 11 month notice and had actually told them of my intentions without a firm date about 2-1/2 years before I left. All to help insure a smooth transition. It went pretty well. They hired my replacement about 4 months before I left and we were able to ease him into the role. I also gave my supervisor at Clemson a full year notice. Fortunately I worked for good companies and people who appreciated the openness on my part. I know not every workplace or boss is like that.

Speaking on a $1 per entry what would one guess concessions make at a sold out home game? Always wondered what that number looked like. Especially with the high cost.

Congrats! I went out four years ago and have enjoyed retirement- for the most part but sometimes I get a little bored. I can usually find something to do and sometimes I just enjoy doing absolutely nothing. Playing golf 3x a week and spending time with my wife, children, and grandchildren keeps me happy.

Still working 2 days a week in a somewhat limited capacity - no big jobs or projects. That much is nice - still useful and interacting with friends, co-workers and customers, but almost zero pressure. Mrs ST still works full-time, so it's just me, the dog, and the TV the other 3 days. That was great for about 6 months, then got boring. Now looking for something else to do.
