Derrick Butler 6-2 guard from Bowling Green. Might be closer to 6-3 than 6-2. Good athlete and shooter. Don't know if Texas A&M is still under 13 spots. Can actually still get to 15 scholarships now. He is from Charlotte. Links:

Interesting. I wonder if that is telling that we need more help at guard.

With porter, hunter, butta, ace, foster, and even dallas thomas, i thought we were set at the guard position.

What we really need is a back up Center. It would be nice to have some depth especially considering welling's injury.

Coach Brownell said in a recent interview on TOS that he still is worried about shooting.

I think there might be a just little concern about Porter being only about 6-1 and if he can get his shot off against bigger Power 5 type guards

Like I said if you watch the highlights of Butler, he is a solid 6-2 and might be closer to 6-3. He averaged over 13 pts a game. Two years ago at Central Michigan he shot over 40 percent from 3 and had 28 points at Creighton.

I think it would be good to bring in maybe 1 more decent shooter to help with depth. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Another reason the staff might be looking at Butler is I read some post and stories that he is a good defender. I remember when Coach Brownell was on Walt Deptula's show he said that they had to really talk to Justen Porter early on fighting through screens better if he wanted to play a lot. I don't think Middle Tennessee put an emphasis on defense like Clemson does.

Here is another video on Butler for Bowling Green. in the first 30 seconds to minute shows his defensive ability. He is a strong 195 if not bigger as well. LINK:

West Virginia was involved with Butler at one time a few weeks ago. They got another guard from HS right at that time and we're not involved anymore afterwards.

This West Virginia guy from their Locked On West Virginia YouTube series started talking about Butler at the 27:15 mark when they were recruiting him. He did some more research and Butler has a pretty good wing span for 6-2 guard and shows some more video of him in action. Link:
