The second massive home match of the weekend for men’s tennis is on Sunday at noon. Hopefully in time to beat the rain, but if not it’ll be held indoors.
NC State is 17-4, 9-0 on the ACC and #6 in the nation. They won won 10 matches in a row.
NC State lineup:
1. #26 Braden Schick, Sr. Greensboro, NC 2. #70 Luca Staeheli, Sr. Wollerau, Switzerland 3. #23 Martin Borisiouk, Jr. Minsk, Belarus 4. Fons Van Sambeek, Sr. Veldhoven, Netherlands 5. Jules Leroux, Fr. Cannes, France 6. William Manning, Fr. Raleigh, NC
They also have two ranked doubles teams This is an experienced and confident team who had hit another gear this season after being ranked 15-20 for most of the last few years.
This is our last chance of the regular season for a big ranking boosting win at home and pretty much have to win it to keep hopes of a top 16 host spot alive.

That's some strong rated players. Good chance for fans to go support our team. No other sports conflicts with the match.
Would we get a quality win in the acc championship tournament? Just thinking ahead for making the top 16. But if we didn't, it just means we wouldn't get a host seed, correct? Obviously we'll be in the tournament, right?

If we win today we will move up to aroind 17 or 18. If we lose we will drop to about 24-25.
Even if we lose the rest of our matches (VT, Virginia, GT and ACC 1st round) we would drop lower than like 42 which is usually the cutoff point. And losing to VT would be shocking since they are unranked. We are pretty much locked in. Which is way better than this time last year when I was trying to finagle a way for us to creep up into the field (we were in the 50s).
But we still want to end strong to keep a ranking around the upper 20s even if we don’t host, so we get a better NCAA tourney draw as a #2 seed to a weaker #1 seed

Meant to text you during the match but was glued to it. I was stoked after we won the doubles... thought maybe, just maybe we'd find a way to win 3 singles.
Idk, would be one heck of a match between wake and state. It's going to happen here. I believe. No doubt you can tell a difference, but I thought we did pretty good considering. It's night and day from last year...
2,3, and 6 wasn't close but the other 3 singles we held our own. Wish we could have pushed a couple to 3 sets at least... but not as far off than 4-1 might indicate.

You could tell pretty quickly on 2 and 3 that it was gonna be tough. Borosiuk hits the ball as hard as Markov but is more solid. And Abderrahman couldn’t do anything to bother Staeheli. This is the first time all year Smith has lost in routine fashion at 6. Manning is 6’6 and has a massive serve. Crazy player to have playing at #6. Hes going to be very good as he gets more experience.
But Noa and Marko were continuing to fight in their 2nd sets. Noa broke at 5-4 to extend his match and force a tiebreak. And Gales was the only one to win a set. He also played great in doubles, so he was the player of the day.
NC state is gonna move up to #4 this week. And yeah they host Wake in the last regular season match of the year. That’s gonna be a barnburner in Raleigh
